Neighbor peering around my property with a drone

Nothing to help the OP, but this statement made by airhorse makes me

Have you ever lived in a rural area? The closest airport to my house is 50 miles
I was totally going to agree with this and then I remembered there are several small air strips near me. Not necessarily an airport, do they count? They get small private plane traffic.

Yes, they all count. We are in a semi rural area and have 7 within 5 miles.

I would not waste your time on this – US Fish Wildlife is not going to pursue a private individual. Yes, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act makes it a federal crime for anyone to harrass MB’s, but they simply don’t have the resources or inclination to chase one-off situations of very limited scope. They don’t even go after most corporations-- the actions have to be egregious before actual penalties are levied.

yes those are airports as long as they’ve registered with FAA. Even one-landowner dirt airstrips have succeeded in blocking windfarms due to the negative impact on airspace navigation.

Wonder how it’s addressed in rural farm areas where there are crop dusters flying extremely low? We have them dusting crops all around us.

OK, remember way back when, we would wet toilet paper in school and throw it hard onto the 12 foot ceilings and watch it stick???
I have extra! Want it shipped??

I’d video its hovering at least once. Then have the subterfuge hose handy. Or a power washer.
Hope this creep has departed over someone else’s property for now. Ewww.

coloredhorse’s video is pretty close to what my own GSD would like to do to the drone if it would just come a bit lower.

I definitely have had daydreams about shooting it down but I don’t have the right firearm for the job and I’m too close to a school anyway.

I guess I’ll start filming it filming me. OR!! I could buy my own drone and equip it for aerial dogfighting. I bet a few squirts of spray paint over the camera lens would make them think twice about bugging me. Someone needs to invent an anti drone, drone. I think we’re going to need them.[/QUOTe

If you can’t fire a true firearm at it, I would make one helluva potato gun …

A couple of guys hereabouts shot a drone out of the air that was above their property, and got cited for it. Airspace is not owned by the landowner. YMMV I guess depending on where you live…

What would happen if you got a “drone of your own” and they just “happened” to collide in mid-air?.. Of course, there’s the issue of spending your money to protect your privacy, and I totally understand that. It could be amusing when filmed from the ground though…:)
I think (but may be wrong) that anything above 85 feet from the ground is considered public airspace, and anything below is your own

FWIW, the drone rule is out:

Unfortunately for the OP, the regs are only for commercial drone operators, and not for “hobbyist operations” at this point in time.

oh piff. :sigh:

Can you just hit it with a rock? Get some good sized rocks and start chucking?

Seems cheaper and easier than most of the suggestions.

No sir, I was not throwing rocks at it. I was practicing my juggling and did not realize that thing was there until I accidentally hit it with one of the rocks I was juggling with.

You could hit with a baseball, soccer ball, basketball or frisbee and just claim you were out playing ball with the kids.

That is so creepy! I would definitely try to knock it down with a ball or something and then get ahold of it. They are pricey; I’m sure the neighbor will come to retrieve it, then you can deal with them in person. Or, get a drone of your own and look in THEIR windows.

I bet tossing loose hay in the air with a pitchfork could be considered routine farm activity. It might also be unfortunate for low-flying drones.

What is more concerning to me about the lack of regulations is the inevitable advance of technology. So if we pass a limit for drones to keep their distance, their cameras and image stabilizers will get better and better until they can sit off of my property and read a UPS label from the box sitting on my porch.

That will happen anyhow…staying just out of reach of that shot gun…

Shoot it with a paintball or something that may knock it down.

If you hit a fan prop with a paintball, it might bring the drone down. If you hit the lens, then it won’t be easy to fly either.
