Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge Eggbutt

I am in the process of getting a new OTTB who is wonderful but still very green. He is quite inconsistent with contact (normal amount- not anything over the top) and is very particular about bits - HATED my loose ring HS. He goes better in an eggbutt/fixed side. I’m curious as to your experiences with this bit and green horses.

TIA!

I would do one of the bit fitting clinics with Neue Schule if you can. I’ve had my horses fitted and it was shocking how different they go in the different bits. Also note that not all of the bits are legal, so you want to research carefully as they are expensive.

I’m riding in this bit right now. It has a tendency to squeak, but my horse likes it. He had been going in a HS loose ring, but we are putting him through a bit of a restart, so mostly inside rein, inside leg, not much contact, beginner baby horse kind of stuff. The fixed side provides more stability and keeps him from trying to pull the bit through his mouth when being naughty (like, trying to leap sideways…hence, the restart). The packaging stated it’s dressage legal.

You can also rent the bits from a few places. MetLab (?) is a place in FL. You can email them info about your horse for help on picking bits.

also, I am pretty sure I thought the turtle bits were now legal.

Thanks everyone! I just read the dressage rulebook on legal bits and am not sure what about this one would make it illegal so I think we are good to go. I’m going to take him to some recognized shows in the fall as a non compete and I’ll ask one of the bit checkers! I will definitely try the rental program @mydogs - thanks for that

I find that young horses go better in egg butts, I think they move less in the mouth. As far as the NS bits, I had one horse absolutely love them and the other was completely unrideable in them. If you have a chance to try before you buy, you should. After trying 3 different ones, we realized that Horse #2’s issue was with the metal. He seems to prefer his fat, el cheapo HS knockoff that I got at the feed store for $20. Fine by me!
