I have lived a horsey lifestyle for over 30 years, and never lived in the world described in that fluffy piece.
Oh, and, that riding is not a real sport - that trope. Just a pasttime for people with too much money and not enough to do.
The piece drilled down on that trope, for sure.

I bet if you asked 100 random Buzzfeed junkies to name one world class equestrian that 99 would be unable to name anyone, and one might come up with Jessica Springsteen.
Or if you asked random Floridians, maybe a few would name Casey DeSantis.

she rides? I lived in FL for the past 20 yrs and never knew this. not that I am a fan of her’s quite the opposite. Her hubs is one of the reasons I moved out of FL.

She did ride, I believe saddlebreds. It occasionally comes up as some in the GOP try to liken her to Jackie Kennedy. But the advisors obviously know very little about the horse world. The hope is that by association Ron DeSantis is associated with the charm and charisma of John Kennedy.

I’d lived in Florida for 40 years, including desantis’ first term and reading it here was also the first time I’d heard she rode. And color me even more surprised to find out it was my favorite breed - American Saddlebred!

Being an English-riding equestrian doesn’t score points with the MAGA crowd so that horse association is reserved for special audiences, like maybe big donors.
Though Ronald Reagan had it both ways. He had the cowboy image, but he was an English rider. And Jackie Kennedy, as most everyone knew and knows, was a fox hunter.
