Thanks for that explanation. It all makes sense. I hope all the good people who are members of these organisations are able to make their voices heard and rid the sport of people like this. You all deserve a sport free of this kind of horror and the horses free of this torture.
I have been gigged for tension in a test âtalented horse, too much tensionâ. Judge was right it was his first show at 3rd level and he was tense. Our score reflected the tension comment.
I think draw reins are definitely a common gadget. I personally have seen draw reins in regular use with a few high performance trainers. I know a lot of local trainers who use them. There is even a youtube of one of our former team members teaching a lesson to someone riding in draw reins.
I have seen lots of nosebands pulled eye poppingly tight. I have seen a lot of ointment used on the ragged corners of mouths. I have seen spur holes and whip welts too. I have seen rollkur at local show warmup arenas. I have seen excessive whipping and spurring at shows. I have seen people slam horses in the mouth with the bits. I have seen rough see sawing, even once right in front of a judge during a test at the NAYRC. I have seen some very strong riding. I have also seen people riding horses in trot and canter for excessive periods of time with no breaks.
I have not personally seen the pulley, ropes, winches, weighted things and the like. I wonder if that is more common with people who are trying to train fast and churn horse sales (i.e. dealers).
I have also seen a lot of people who love and are kind to their horses.
I like the suggestions the French have made for horse welfare for the Olympics. At least one country is thinking about it.
1000% times this! Conviction --> incarceration --> deportation. See you never!
Iâve been following this story for the past few days. I think the videos show what Iâve suspected for a long time based off the prior incidents and a couple personal stories I heard from my trainer when she watched a local clinic that he had years ago.
All of the videos are shocking of course. Particularly the horse in the flying W, who looks like he is about to seriously injure himself because he is so panicked. All while a couple of spectators drink champagne. But I canât believe the videos with horse whipped from behind with a rider and they continue on like itâs nothing. If a trainer did that with me in the saddle, the lesson would come to a screeching halt. That horse was about to explode and both the rider and Parra act like this is normal. It makes me think thatâs why most of the horses are in a draw rein, to keep them from rearing.
I struggle with that too. Who is this rider tolerating that treatment? Judging from the build and seat and posture, it seems to be the same rider on different horses in a couple of the videos. Maybe itâs a training assistant or working student? Maybe one that was being held hostage over visa concerns? One suffering from PTSD seeing these videos all over social media and wanting to speak out but has been bullied into silence. Thatâs all hypothetical but itâs the best explanation I can come up with.

What is interesting is the post with Gerd Heuschmannâs letter to FEI.
Toe flippers are not over the back which yes is incorrect. Itâs a sign of tension.
That was because the pros hadnât yet dropped their park horses into the EP classes.
A friend and I were half-seriously discussing entering the park class with our CP horses one year, because we figured weâd be the only 2 entries.
Didnât get to try it, though, because I fractured my spine in a fall, and by the time I could ride again, nobody was holding park classes anymore.
Do you have a link to that post?
You have to scroll down in the link that Debbie_D postedâŠit is copied in a post in that discussion
Thank you.
I donât see it on that post, was it deleted?
Sign this petition for a life time ban from horse sport for Parra:
Petition signed and posted to Facebook. Letâs hope it worksâŠ
HmmmmâŠI went back to the FB link and could not find it. I know I did not hallucinate, but I find FB does wierd things with posts depending on what their algorithms think you want to see.
Google knows everythingâŠthis is the post I saw
This really gets to me. From the Dressage News article;
âVideos of horse abuse that had been provided first to the U.S. federation but led to no action were then posted on the Internet by Adam and Parra employees that blew open the case.â
USEF has a lot of explaining to do, but they are hiding behind the we-canât-comment-on-ongoing-investigations line.
USEF certainly wouldnât compromise the FEI âinvestigationâ if they explained their own disgusting lack of action to their members.
I agree. They got 'splaining to do.
Update From Dressage-News: USEF Board to meet tomorrow with Parra at the top of the agenda and other goodies!
