Video of what they did for the chariot race with trailer scenes of the race.
I don’t see how they can do those scenes without horses being hurt. Maybe they filmed in a country without animal protection laws while filming.

amazing…
Charlton Heston’s version was filmed without harming horses.
The director had been appalled by the wholesale slaughter of the original from the silent movie era that he had vowed to be better prepared.
A lot can be done with creative editing…
Just watching the trailer on TV made me cringe, I can’t even watch it now. No way they could do those scenes without horses getting hurt. No way I’ll watch the movie.
It looks like they did the dangerous stuff for man and beast with CGI -

Also, according to the produces, no real horses were injured during filming:

Now we can all enjoy guilt-free!
Why did this movie even need to be remade? Does anyone in Hollywood have an ORIGINAL thought?

To be fair, the Heston movie also was a remake.
Francis X Tushman (look him up) is documented on his dismay at the way the animals were treated. Basically injury = death.
Remake seems to have a better record, but you can see wholesale tripping of a team and the yakima canutt jump wasn’t planned well. Tripping was common.
Don’t forget that the “humane” groups brought in on movies are financially supported by the very industry they are supposed to regulate. It doesn’t take much reasearch to see where they fail (Life of Pi, anyone?)
At least I can take solace in the fact that Matson-spam is more dilute on this board.
As for a remake of a remake? As stated before : the dearth of ideas in commercial hollywood astounds, considering the technology they have access to.
Anyone want to see a Matson vs. Haybert chariot race? Should be fun hearing Haybert yelling at me as we race around.
I’ve read this before about the humane oversight being supported by the movie industry, so, really NOT advocating for the animals.
As for Hollywood, they have NO original ideas. They’ve been riding the comic book story wave, and remake wave so long, it is ridiculous.
Hardly, mike. More like passing you

Yes, but the difference between a silent (Francis X Bushman and Ramon Navarro, I believe?) and a full color Cinemascope sound version is considerable. This is just same old/same old, plus, from what I can gather from the brief clips, a major departure from the novel. Messala is now his brother? (I may have misinterpreted the clip I saw, but that’s what it sounded like.)
(Trivia for those who liked the old tv westerns: The star of the old '50s era tv western Tombstone Territory, Pat Conway, was the grandson of Francis X. Bushman)
