New boots - my husband is a sweetie! But StateLine Tack is ticking me off!

I have a birthday this month and wanted new boots. I picked them out and sent my husband the link. Stateline Tack has a big banner up - get $25% your order! I thought schweet! So I sent him the link to the boots on that site.

Well, it’s bullshit! Today I went through the order process myself and it’s not 25% off the advertised price. When you go to check out, they jack up the price and claim that you saved 25% by shopping there. Seriously?

So I emailed my husband and said don’t order from there. He just called me and the sweet man had already ordered them. But I am still ticked at Stateline. I’m not finding them any cheaper anywhere else so the point is maybe moot but the tactic still pisses me off.

Okay. /rant. :frowning:

Yeah stateline does their “percent off” based on

  1. Which link you click (it’s kind of like VistaPrint. Some links are 10%, 15%, etc)
  2. The percent has already been taken off in the price

Irritating is what it is!

Unfortunately that is a very common practice in retail. My DH used to work in a winter sporting goods shop and told me that when they ran their big “30%” sales, they would jack up the prices to suggested retail or higher for the week before. In reality, the “big sale” prices were only slightly lower (like 5%) then their usual in-store price. :frowning:

Kind of like Dover advertising 25 % off something, but it is really 20% off and then 5% USEF discount (if you are a member) off of that lowered price. It really doesn’t add up to 25% off the original price.

I’ve got to give props to State Line Tack for at least making it right. My birthday was yesterday and my husband gave me the boots, which I love. So I was going to write a review and noticed when I went to the State Line Tack website that the boots were now advertised at the price they should have been with the 25% off. I called customer care and they are refunding the difference which is nearly $56. So glad I checked and followed-up!
