New County Saddle Pricing

I’m looking at buying a new County (epiphany most likely) that will likely need custom flap sizing. To prepare myself so I don’t look too shocked in front of the fitter, how much are these costing now brand new in the US? Thanks!

The epiphany saddles start around $6500

I can confirm that three barn friends of mine got custom Countys and the price point was ~$6000.

And that’s why I buy used saddles…

I’m too old for this sport, I guess. My very first Passier saddle, custom ordered, cost around $300. Back in the 1960’s.

$6000? No way. All three of my old Counties together cost less than that.

@Three Figs,

All three of the people had conformational issues that made off the rack saddles a poor compromise. (Two of them were tall with extremely long femurs and needed extra long/extra forward flaps.)

I like County saddles and I like the local fitter, but I buy used as well. Countys wear like iron, and I’ve found good used ones form $1000 - $2500.

And yes, I bought my first new saddle (a Prix de Saute) in 1979 for $375.

There is a used County Facebook group I believe. You might try looking there.

I get it and yet in effect you were paying around 3K for a saddle in the 1960’s. It kind of boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

Yes, yes it does!

I bought a new Amerigo back in 2019 and then looked for one in 2023 and the price difference over just a few years (granted there was a pandemic thrown in there) was substantial.

I got a new County a few years ago and it was $5700. But beware: Big BEWARE: I ordered it with some special features for design and it arrived in plain brown. (I had had some piping in black to dress up a plain brown saddle.). I waited for three months for it and they screwed that up. Gave me the cost of the piping off, but they should have let me use the saddle till my correctly ordered one was built. Nope. Just a refund on the special features. So, if you want anything special, nail it down. And then nail it down again. great saddles. Flakey US sales teams.

Be careful.

When I wanted a custom flap long ago, they told me that while they would guarantee the fit for the horse, they would not do that for the rider.

When I asked how my risk would be mitigated, they said “you trust your fitter.” I walked as the company and the fitter, who enjoyed almost all the control in getting this right, had no skin in the game.

I just purchased a new County (I went with the velocity, and no fancy customizing) and it ran me about $8K. My fitter was great, and he brought in a ton of demos for us to try. The horse in question was unenthusiastic about my collection of French saddles, but loves his Velocity. The saddle has helped with some of our training challenges, and I like mine better than the demos, as I have short legs and needed a short flap. They offered to do an extra custom one, with even shorter flaps, but that would have impacted their guaranteed fit policy, so I didn’t end up going that route.
