New England CANTER cuties 09 - very fun Salty's Actor update! (post #133)

Bump!

Yup just what appjumper said . VERY nice horse but they did find a chip or two in his knee (not sure if it was both knees or just one) but according to his trainer, it has never been a problem. The one who did the PPE wanted him for eventing. He has been well taken care of and his owner only wants the best for him. Coco’s Gold is another nice one from the same trainer. Both may be going to a farm in Mass. for the winter but I am not 100% positive on that. But call the trainer Greg if anyone is interested!! He heads back to Puerto Rico for the winter and comes back up here every spring :).

We will be at the track Saturday as that is the last day for the horses to be there so if anyone wants to meet us there, you are more than welcome to!

ride for tbs?

I offered a ride to the horses on the other thread who needed to get to Florida but they aren’t sure they’ll need it yet.

I live in Maryland and can take the horses from MD to Ocala or anywhere in-between on I-95 S. I can maybe go a little north to pick up the horses and can bring them south from Mon-Wednesday of next week.

If you can get the horses from the track to about the Washington DC area–I will be able to have room for 4 horses. Was planning a trip in my car but can easily switch to truck and trailer. You just cover the gas.

Happy to help these guys if I can.

Bumping up for the Suffolk Sweeties!

bumping again! If you can; please get out to Suffolk and pick up a new horse!

You know, I won something on the lottery yesterday - unfortunately only $24 - otherwise Peppermint Lace and Tift would be in my imaginary barn in a heartbeat. Those are two nice lookin’ beasties and what a bargain for two that are not hot off the track. URGGGGHHH, it’s killing me.

Bumpity.

Coco’s Gold is on the way to FL and Panky is on the way to GA. Thanks Bosox for the offer of the ride but the girl who took Panky would only take him if we used her shipper. $900 was way more than I was planning on spending on shipping but not worth leaving him behind over.

Very glad to hear that Panky and Coco got homes!
I have a mare that I got this Fall from the same trainer. Hopefully that would make it that all his horses found homes…

He had a 10 year old gelding named Elusive Image that we were trying to place as well but by the time we found someone for him, he’d already found someone to take him. As far as I know he just had the tree and they’re all accounted for.

Coco’s Gold (Beans) arrived around 6:45 tonight. The shipper was uncomfortable driving down the road to our barn so we unloaded him on the side of a very dark but active road and walked him the 1/2 mile in the dark down the lane to the barn. He gave a little spook passing the dressage ring but oh my gosh! He was really such a good boy - unloading on a road and walking through the woods in the dark.

Once we got him to the barn he had a drink, rolled in the fresh bedding and went to work on his hay, completely unfazed. We pulled him back out after a rest to get a better look at him and he was really laid back - but still alert.

He has a huge long stride at the walk! He is in need of some groceries but is not terribly skinny. He smells BAD - bath tomorrow and has a lot of fungus on his legs, but otherwise they’re much cleaner than I would have expected. We gave him some ulcer guard as a precaution which he didn’t love but was easy about the dosing - which is good because he’s getting wormed tomorrow.

He seems to be quite a love - he was rubbing his face on my jacket (which now stinks too) in the stall and when we turned out the lights to leave for the night, he nickered :winkgrin:

YAY!! I really liked him … ended up with two Finger Lakes instead - but so glad he is home!

Coco’s Gold aka Beans

Pictures from his first day home. He had a bath and stood like a champ on the cross ties while we scrubbed him and washed his face, then some time out in the round pen. We started clipping because he’s got such a fungus issue right now and it’s still quite hot here.

Salty’s Actor update

Cooper (aka Salty’s Actor) has been progressing so nicely. He’s put on over 100lbs - I figure he’s gained roughly half of what he needs to be where he should be. Two trim jobs later and his hooves look soooo much better now too.

I started doing light groundwork with him and just like his 3/4 sister he picks things up quickly. He’s so eager to please, it’s really fun working with him. With the weight gain, I didn’t feel too guilty to get up on him for the first time Saturday.

He stood stock still while I acquainted him to the feel of being mounted from a block, and continued to do so once I was up on him to stay. Our first couple steps forward were a little rough (“I go fast now? No? You no want?”) but he settled quickly. After a few minutes he sighed and started licking & chewing so I called it a day at that.

Now the really fun part. This morning, I trucked my Salty girl --Cooper’s 3/4 sister-- along with her best buddy Sweet Pea over to the barn where I board Cooper. Although the Actor & Actress were in the same barn & shared the same trainer a couple years ago, I figured they probably hadn’t really truly been together since they were babies in Florida. I wasn’t sure if they’d remember each other or not but I thought the outing would be a fun field trip for the girls anyway.

It was so touching seeing Cooper & Salty girl saying hello to each other over the fence. I can’t say for sure whether they recognized each other, but they sure seemed like friends! The reunion was very quiet (until the boys in the neighboring pasture all came over to ogle Salty girl, at which point she said some not very nice things…) and gentle and just so darned sweet.

A couple pictures of the meeting:

Don’t they look like they’re smiling?

What a great update!!!
How is Mr. Rasor D these days?

Rasor is wonderful, though a bit peeved at me for spending so much time with another bay man.

All great photos!! So nice to see them in nice homes…
How are all the other CANTER placed horses doing??
