New England CANTER cuties 09 - very fun Salty's Actor update! (post #133)

Oh I know it – that’s what happens when you actually feed your horse appropriate amounts on a regular basis.

I love that you got Deception’s Child! I had my eye on her. And I’m pretty sure I actually saw her on her way to the showcase – I couldn’t look very long or too closely because Cooper was in the trailer and I was driving out…but she sure is a looker!

bump!

While I’m happy he got a home, I’m sad that Fongtastic was snatched up before I could get him! I sold my mare Saturday night, and was hoping he’d still be available for me to go get on Sunday. :frowning:
I’m looking at the others, but none stand out to me. I want something a little older, chestnut, and plain. Preferably Mr. Prospector bred. Number one requirement is laid back and ho-hum. I can work with everything else.
I like Kiss my Valentine, but she’s young and it says she’s a firecracker.

Heh… yeah. I’m currently putting weight on a new addition by doing the same thing - free choice hay, and moderate amounts of grain. He’s blossoming. Funny how that happens

Deception’s Child is a very cool chick. Very smart and level headed, especially for a racing fit 3 year old! She’s one of those thinkers that watches the world go by with great interest - always observing and figuring things out. She had the most wonderful muddy roll yesterday - that look of pure bliss is just priceless

MCS - I’m sorry you missed Fongtastic, but there are a couple other chestnut geldings on the listings right now…

What about William Sound?

MCS - you have a pm

MCS - You and I have a similar taste in mares. I like Kiss My Valentine a lot, & Captive Appeal, but my favorite is Devilish Ghost.

chism - Devilish Ghost caught my eye too

Alrighty folks, we’ve got some must gos!!!

The following need homes ASAP:

TRAINER-OWNED MARE,
Chestnut, 16 hands, 4 years old

“Spiro’s Gold” is a well-built mare with great bone - as you’d expect given her high-class pedigree (she’s a granddaughter of champion sire Forty Niner on her sire’s side, and the influential Storm Bird on her dam’s.) Racing fit now, but will be stunning with groceries on the farm. A kind and quiet girl, she has a recent knee injury that will require time off. Trainer doesn’t want to push her on the track, hopes to find her a good home where she can have the summer off before retraining as a flatwork prospect (she is not a candidate for jumping/eventing). With her graceful carriage and long stride, she seems to have lots of potential as a dressage horse!

She needs a home ASAP! Price: $500 negotiable to an excellent home with references - NO DEALERS. Call Junior Panton at 646-645-9549.

TRAINER-OWNED MARE
Bay, 15.3 hands, 5 years old

“Sister Agnes” is racing fit and feeling good, though she is sweet and willing. Would do best with a more experienced handler, but could have a great future as a hunter under saddle or event horse.

Asking $500. Call Junior Panton at 646-645-9549

TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 15.1 hands, 6 years old

“Out of Answers” is a sweet, accommodating horse. He clearly wants to go to a home where he can be the center of attention and soak up love and pats from his new owner. Trainer knows that Out of Answers is ready to retire; notes that he does have some stiffness in his knees due to arthritic changes and will require some time off but should make an excellent pal or light riding horse.

Price: $500 Kerry Reynolds at 603-548-3870

TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 15.2 hands, 6 years old

“Mr Monsieur Cat” jogged out well/sound down the shed row in the middle of feeding time – other horses were all worked up but he didn’t miss a beat and happily trotted along up and down a few times.

Price: $500 OBO Call Junior at 646-645-9549.

Agh! I am torn.

There is Volcanic Force, a sentimental pick.

Then I saw Pop Rocket. http://www.canterne.org/images-salehorses/PopRocket.jpg He’s a son of Golden Missile, a stallion I had actually looked at before (a vet who used to work at the zoo works at the farm where he stands) and whom I like a LOT. He’s out of a granddaughter of Pleasant Colony. Golden Missile’s a son of A.P. Indy and his dam goes back to Dr. Fager.

Throw in Finger Lakes, where there is Lucky to Cope and Carr Ride, and I am stuck.

And no, I can’t take them all. And even if my brother in Westchester could afford to board a horse (at rates higher than his rent) he’s looking for 16-17hh and these guys are at most 16hh.

danceronice-If it helps, Pop Rocket is boarding a van for Florida in the morning, so that should narrow it down.

Volcanic Force is a great sentimental pick; and worth a look. His trainer also has a nice chestnut we just saw this weekend; worth a look!

The BIG problem I have with Volcanic Force…I am leaning very hard in the direction of a field hunter prospect. I am not sure about someone with “wear and tear” on an ankle–there is nothing in his listing about being unsound for jumping, but on the other hand, if he’s got a dicey front ankle, I’m not sure he’d stand up to cross-country pounding. I suppose I would only know if I call…

Pop Rocket looked far too nice to retire! But then I’m not paying to feed him and train him. His sire is gorgeous and a horse I would serious consider if I had a mare to breed (for a racing foal.)

Lol, all four horses I pointed out to my brother (plus Unlimited Warranty, Carr Ride’s stablemate by the same sire) are unmarked bays. (Okay, Carr Ride has a TEENY white coronet band. Like “so small only the Jockey Club cares” small.) I have looked at grays and chestnuts yet I always come back to the plain old bays. Which I guess means more redheads for the rest of you!

Hi all-

There are still some very nice horses left but they are leaving fast. Our website is pretty much fully updated so please visit www.canterne.org for horses who are still available; we haven’t had a chance to update from this weekend but Flying Freddie and Anotha Toughcookie are both sold.

I encourage everyone to call the trainers directly of any horses they are interested in.

We do still have a few horses who are in urgent need of homes; you can see their pictures on the website except Point to Glory, I’ll put his pictures up on our Facebook page tonight:

09-2839-10. TRAINER-OWNED MARE
Bay, 15.3 hands, 5 years old

She was very quiet as we took her picture and doesn’t get bothered by much according to her trainer.

T09-2849-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 16.2 hands, 5 years old

“Rainbow Glide” is a very sweet guy recently sustained a small suspensory issue that is still healing. Trainer reports that he’s begun treatment and with some time off should tighten up. Great to work with and a very attractive horse, he should make an excellent prospect with some time off and TLC. Trainer just can’t devote the time to treat him as the end of the meet approaches.

Price: $500 Call Bernie Bramante at 617-291-5104

“Point to Glory” is another very sweet guy, 5 year old bay gelding, about 16 hands. He couldn’t have been more adorable when I went to visit him. Does have a large bow, but with time off and TLC should turn into a great companion horses for someone or a light riding trail horse. Really a doll, and really needs a home.

Price: $500 Call Junior at at 646-645-9549.

And if you can’t swing a horse…you can still send a wee dribble…CANTER NE’s wish list is up on our site!

If you are interested PLEASE make plans to see them asap; horses MUST leave the track by next Saturday.

bump!

I love Coco’s Gold… he is just stunning - just worried that he has raced A LOT - 52 starts is quite a bit for a 6 year old…

Anyone seen him?

Bump!

Coco’s Gold is on the must go list - these horses NEED homes by Saturday!

T08-2658-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Chestnut with chrome, 15.3/16 hands, 4 years old

“Panky Hanky” has a silly name but seriously “wow” looks: great shoulder, rear end, and topline…and how can you resist that face? Panky has been treated well and it shows in his desire to make new friends with every human who crosses his path. He’s finishing consistently at the back of the pack come race day, and trainer wants to find him a happy new home now. Anyone who meets this horse is sure to fall in love!

Price: $500 negotiable. Call Greg Rivera, 857-251-8213.

T09-2674-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Chestnut with chrome, 16.2 hands, 6 years old

“Coco’s Gold” will grab your attention immediately, with his handsome face and very interesting, flashy markings. On top of that, Coco is a total sweetheart who doesn’t do a thing wrong. Trainer proudly states, “He’s very nice, has no vices, and would make a great horse for a kid someday.”

Not fazed by anything and a big, solid citizen who carry some famous blood in his veins: his sire Lion Cavern is a son of Mr. Prospector out of a Secretariat mare, so you can see where he gets his strapping, muscular build.

Trainer doesn’t want to “get stuck” with his slower horses at the end of the Suffolk meet, so is pricing to sell now.

Price: $500 negotiable. Call Greg Rivera at 857-251-8213.

T09-2688-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Dark bay, 15.3 hands, 7 years old

Price: $900 Call Donna 603-275-0923

T09-2738-09. TRAINER-OWNED STALLION
Chestnut with Flaxen Mane/Tail, 15.3 hands, 5 years old

“Sky Champion” is solid, stands over a lot of ground and has wonderful coloring! He would be a nice stallion to cross with quarter horse or draft mares given his build. Trainer says “sound, but flips his palette when racing” (which should not be an issue unless you’re planning on running with your barn mates at 40 m.p.h.!). Trainer needs to find this handsome guy a home ASAP.

T09-2844-10. TRAINER-OWNED FILLY
Chestnut, 15.2 hands, 3 years old

“Kiss My Valentine” is a bit of a firecracker reports her trainer but she is good to work with and has excellent manners. She is just not showing any speed on the track, so trainer wants to find her a home before they move on for the winter.

In person this cutie looks almost like a Quarter Horse–she has a super chunky, round build, deep shoulder and nice, short back. She’s quite a nice little package and looks like a real athlete!

We can’t believe that she’s still available–snap her up before it’s too late!

Price: $500 Call Pal at 813-454-4987

Please call the trainer listed if you are interested - they are the ones who have the most up to date information on the horses, and every second counts!!

I’ve taken a look at his campaign and nothing would make me worry (rather it would suggest to me he’s pretty sturdy.) He started very late & lightly in his two-year-old year, then ran steadily the next two years. He’s been in good hands and has had the last couple winters off for rest.

As always, PPE is recommended but I wouldn’t pass him over just because he’s racked up 50+ starts.

I like Panky Hanky too…ugh

I cant take both but I am showing them both to my trainer.

Anyone know anything about Panky Hanky or seen him in person?

bump

Panky is a lovely guy and a stunning mover. He’s been discussed quite a bit here on COTH.
He was vetted this year, and I believe there was something about his knees that were a red flag to the purchaser, because he’s still at the track… so perhaps he’d be better suited to flatwork than jumping, as I believe they were looking at him for eventing.

But he is a wonderful horse and deserves a great new home!
