And we’ll be taking more listings this weekend…lots of nice ones available who need homes :).
And by the end of the meet, there will be even more - trainers will decided last minute to rehome horses they initially thought they’d keep. I think the first time I went to SD after the final day of racing, I was offered 15 horses just by walking down between the barns :eek:
If you are serious about getting a horse, bring your trailer. Really.:yes::yes:
CANTER NE Trainer horses that need homes ASAP
Hi all -
The following horses are looking for homes asap. If you are on the fence about any of them or any others we have listed, please feel free to come to the track to see them. We will be there both Saturday and Sunday again this weekend. Prices are negotiable :-).
“Spiro’s Gold” is a well-built mare with great bone - as you’d expect given her high-class pedigree (she’s a granddaughter of champion sire Forty Niner on her sire’s side, and the influential Storm Bird on her dam’s.) Racing fit now, but will be stunning with groceries on the farm. A kind and quiet girl, she has a recent knee injury that will require time off. Trainer doesn’t want to push her on the track, hopes to find her a good home where she can have the summer off before retraining as a flatwork prospect (she is not a candidate for jumping/eventing). With her graceful carriage and long stride, she seems to have lots of potential as a dressage horse!
Chestnut, 16 hands, 4 years old, mare
She needs a home ASAP! Price: $500 negotiable to an excellent home with references - NO DEALERS. Call Junior Panton at 646-645-9549
(photo not working at the moment)
“Sister Agnes” is racing fit and feeling good, though she is sweet and willing. Would do best with a more experienced handler, but could have a great future as a hunter under saddle or event horse.
Bay, 15.3 hands, 5 years old, mare
Asking $500. Call Junior Panton at 646-645-9549

“Sun Break” is easy to handle, doesn’t act like a colt; “very relaxed and quiet,” according to trainer. Sun’s grandsire is the famous Forty Niner, who won the Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup; his dam is a daughter of the gorgeous multi-millionaire Jolie’s Halo. Hunk alert!
Bay, 16/16.1 hands, 4 years old, colt
Asking $500/OBO Call Rupert Grant 813-679-6926

“Out of Answers” is a sweet, accommodating horse. He clearly wants to go to a home where he can be the center of attention and soak up love and pats from his new owner. Trainer knows that Out of Answers is ready to retire; notes that he does have some stiffness in his knees due to arthritic changes and will require some time off but should make an excellent pal or light riding horse.
Bay, 15.1 hands, 6 years old, gelding
Price: $500 Kerry Reynolds at 603-548-3870

“Runswithscissors” is a super pretty grey with dapples! Trainer reports that he is also excellent to work with and is great under saddle. The trainers loved his sweet attitude and good personality. Does have some wear-and-tear in his ankles, but is racing sound and should make an excellent prospect.
Gray, 15.3 hands, 8 years old, gelding
Price: $500 Call Shirley Dullea at 781-420-1644

“Haloitsme” needs an experienced handler, but, per trainer–“once she knows you and can trust you she becomes a complete lovebug!” Reports that she has no soundness issues, but is looking do sell his horses before the winter. Says that she is an excellent mare and should make a great re-training project. She did bang herself coming off the track, so trainer is working to heal her back leg, which swelled a bit with a cut. Still trotting out nicely even with the cut!
Bay, 16 hands, 5 years old, mare
Price: $500 Call Shannon at 401-617-4187

“Cat Topper” has had a successful career on the track and with his breeding that is no surprise: he’s by a son of Mr. Prospector with other notables such as Storm Cat, Majestic Light, Buckpasser and Lyphard in his pedigree.
Chestnut, 16 hands, 5 years old, gelding
Price: $500 Call Leona at 781-727-7226

“Monsieur Cat” jogged out well/sound down the shed row in the middle of feeding time – other horses were all worked up but he didn’t miss a beat and happily trotted along up and down a few times.
Bay, 15.2 hands, 6 years old, gelding
Price: $500 OBO Call Junior at 646-645-9549.

These last three we don’t have pictures up just yet but will soon on our website - new listings from yesterday!
“A Cat for Judy” - This very sweet girl is ready for a new home and life off the track. Trainer is cutting string as he moves south for the winter. The volunteers loved her lovely expression and personality.
16h 3yo bay filly
$500/OBO Please call Hector 617-892-5874
“Island Whirl Girl” - Trainer is cutting his string before the end of the meet and would like to find a home for this nice filly. She was very attentive to the volunteers and while she does have an ankle, but has started treatment for it and needs some more time off and TLC.
15.3h 5yo bay filly
$500/OBO Please call Hector 617-892-5874
“Anastasia K” - The volunteers had two words to describe this filly: “super cute”! Trainer is selling because she is just not running the way she needs too in order to move on to other tracks and they need to make more room in the stable for horses that can compete. She was very quiet as we took her picture and doesn’t get bothered by much according to her trainer.
16H 4yo bay filly
$500/OBO Please call Junior Panton 646-645-9549
As always, we recommend a PPE just to make sure the horse is suitable for your needs :-). And as mentioned earlier, we will be at the track both days this weekend!
THANK YOU!!
I love Peppermint Lace, what a cutie patootie …
Bump for the Tuesday morning crowd :D:).
Pics are up for the new additions - Afleet Aya is CUTE!!
TRAINER-OWNED FILLY
Chestnut, 15.2 hands, 5 years old
“Afleet Aya” is a filly that the trainer described to the volunteers as “my baby”. He is reluctantly parting with her as the meet ends. Says that she is excellent to work with and should make anyone a lovely mare. Trainer would like to see her go be a broodmare at the right home. She has a stocky build and comes from a very pedigreed family; her sire Northern Afleet sired the memorable “Afleet Alex”.
Price: $500 Call Don at 401.465.3194 or Joe at 401.490.4444.
WOW - is she Pretty!!!
Damn this job hunting thing! - If I only had a job…
Any info on Marquis Star? His picture is at a weird angle, but for some reason he caught my eye and I can’t stop going back to his listing…trying to remember how unreasonable it would be for me to have to pay board on 2 horses…
bump!
Bump :D.
Bump bump!
Someone please buy Volcanic Force before I take long-distance impulse buying to new and unhealthy levels (or at least assure me his trainer is not the type to take him home and ship him to auction if there aren’t any takers. Or let me know if someone’s buying and shipping west along 90/80 anywhere near southwest MI/northwest Indiana/Chicago and would stop by…) I am trying to ignore that I even still have the program from the Masscap with his name marked as one I bet on. And that $500 is really not a lot for a six-year old.
Irony, if I were still living in Boston, I couldnt’ afford to keep a horse and wouldn’t be tempted at all…
Oh I’m sure you could find a shipper to bring him to you :D. He is a nice horse and does need a home .
Yeah, I’m sponsoring/fostering a feedlot rescue who may or may not need a trailer ride out to me (though the other folks caring for him might cry if I decided to bring him here and we do kind of have horsey-matchmaker hopes for him and a lady starting to look for her next boy, and since this horse has lead a bizarrely charmed life in the last few weeks, who knows, maybe it’ll work out…) Also I would need to find a place with a stall to take an OTTB, plus hope the trainer could hold him a couple days while I arranged shipping.
On the other hand, he’s tall, dark and handsome, a TB looking for work, all my stuff is meant for a TB, and I already sank $2 into him last year…
Volcanic Force with his game face on in the paddock before the 08 MassCap.
Aw c’mon. You know you want him.
I just got back from doing a night check out at the barn where I’m boarding Cooper (Salty’s Actor). While I had a few minutes I took the chance to fix him up a bit and pull his crazy-pick-a-direction mane. I was expecting to have a hard time pulling it because his princess-and-the-pea sister hates having her mane pulled.
Turns out, not only did Cooper not object, he actually seemed to enjoy it (“Yes! Fix my craptastic mane! Thank you lady who brings me things!”) He fell asleep right on the crossties. It looks like he’s gonna be a southpaw – though there is one little section that wants to go right, plus there is that whole extra long bridle path sticking up growing out thing going on. Still, he looks so much better. I’ll try to get some pics tomorrow.
Aaww Wendy!
That’s because Cooper is perrfect :) He KNOWS what he’s got!
danceronice - it’s ment to be. Really. You NEED him!!!:yes:
Anybody bring anyone home today?
Still so many nice horses listed…
You can’t go wrong with a name like She’s A Nice Lady
Chestnut mare anyone?: Kiss My Valentine
As promised, some new pictures of Cooper:
I seem to end up with a lot of shots like this because he has a tendency to follow me around like a puppy dog. That’s not helping with the whole not getting attached to him thing!
Okay, so his mane still is a little crazy…
…but his outlook on life these days sure is a lot brighter!
He’s definitely gained weight and is up to 900 lbs now…at 16 hands he’ll look better with a couple hundred more I think.
Shesanicelady has some nice breeding behind her too.
Cooper looks so much better already! What a sweet boy
We ended up coming home with Deceptions Child - she’s a sweetheart!
I love the face on Kiss My Valentine - something about her expression just makes me want to take her home. BUT I have to find work to pay the bills first.
Maybe next year…
Bump!
I so wish I could take one this year but I purposefully rented out my empty stall so I couldn’t be tempted.
Therefore, I must ask others to act for me!
My CANTER NE cutie is awesome. People always complement me on him at the hunt. Most people don’t believe he’s an OTTB because he has so much bone.
