New farm, let's build some stuff

I’m getting my ass handed to me by this stone for the dry lot.

You want modified. The stone that you have stays loose, and is not great for their soles. Ask me how I know.

This is just a base layer. The limestone fines come today. It’s 1 1/2 clean, and binds well. It will also get jammed into the soil when it’s not so dry out. There will be 4" of limestone on top.

I think it will be OK, but I’m not 100% confident. I’m panicking a little, this is quite pricey if it doesn’t work (though I do have a bit of a plan B if I absolutely have to).

Deep breath.

I know logically you know that is how all things horse are. Pricey and some of them do not work out the way we had hoped they would.

But they are all a learning experience and that is worth something.

The 4" of limestone on top should be great! I had that on my farm in a few areas, it compacted super well. I only rolled with a 400-lb roller to compact, so if you’re renting a plate compacter, it’ll be even better.

How exactly is it kicking your ass and causing panic? Is it that it doesn’t want to spread really nicely? It would probably go better if you were going a little deeper with it or using a bigger implement. It should work out though, don’t panic yet

It’s that I’m as proficient with that machine as I am writing with my non-dominant hand.

As in, I’m not. Lol

Gotcha!!! I desperately want one too, but it would take me awhile to be any good with it I’m sure

I’d like to keep my 9k learning experiences to a minimum if I can

Oh they’re totally goners haha. I figured I’d give them a chance though, and they’ll make for good enrichment.

I’ve got another 60+ posts to read, but… what are your Dutch doors hanging from and shutting against if the posts are 10 ft apart?

The 4x6 posts I just dug holes for and installed. they aren’t structural like the 10oc posts are, so could wait until later

Slowly but surely leveling and tamping the footing in the addition. What an infuriating and frustrating activity.

Did you wet it down? If that is what we call stone dust around here, it sets really well if its soaked down.
