Just pulled the ladies’ food. Wish us luck in getting everyone safely in carriers tomorrow for their surgeries. Polly and Louisa shouldn’t be too hard. I’m worried about Victoria. I’m planning on long sleeves and gloves. Up and in butt first before she can react.

(@2DogsFarm, it took me a minute to figure out those were bells and then I said, darn, I wonder if there are chains, for curb chains.)

I just grabbed poor Victoria by her scruff and plopped her in before she could think. The others were easy.

All three are at the vet. Polly will be tested for FIV ($42 is too pricey for all three). Vaccines, ages?, flea treatment and spays. It’s a barn cat spa day.

I have this vision of some poor vet tech (probably her second day, you know?) having to open that cat carrier with a pissed off Queen Victoria inside.

I know I know…the vets are professionals and know what they are doing. But some poor soul is reconsidering their career choices today wrangling a feral cat. :joy:

Oh no, Queen Victoria will behave like my female cat, Hannah, used to.
She was hell on wheels at home, fighting, hissing, all the drama. But once she was in the car a switch got flipped. She became the most pleasant, lovely creature on earth. She’d open her eyes really wide, put her whiskers forward and strut like she was in a pageant.
Let the techs and vet handle her without a peep. Actually got compliments on her behavior! This continued until she got back to the house then look out! Hellion Hannah would return and no one was safe once again.

Three of my cats are well behaved at the vet. Then there is Pee Wee. Whenever a vet or vet tech comes into the room, she hisses. She’s mostly just talk and mostly just hisses and growls but she’s rude. She’s rude at home too!

Hope everything goes well for the 3 lady cats today.

Just finished stripping and scrubbing all the crates to reduce infection risk. Not sure how long the barn ladies need to recover, but at least a day. I’m heading out to buy new litter boxes as well. We’ll maintain litter boxes in the workshop anyway, in case they choose to sleep there. Ralph comes in every night. I also thought it best to put Victoria in a single story, so the kittens have a fun new crate to explore. I gave the kittens their second distemper and deworming this morning as well. Caleb should go home in a day or so.

The techs were told who was who. You never know, though. I made sure I told them we could pet her. She’ll probably be reactive and escape minded, rather than out and out mean. We haven’t heard her hiss since the first week we brought and her kittens into the garage. She does have a regal way about her though. Sweet girl.

I hope they all do well today. And a negative FIV! One of Louisa’s kittens tested negative, (new owner tested Lewis) so perhaps if Polly is negative, I can be pretty sure Louisa and all the kittens that shared space and nursed communally are negative.

The rescue has assumed all the expenses for the last three kittens. They’ll get them tested and fixed. I weighed them today. All are too small still for spay/neuter. There’s a back up as well, so, hopefully, they can get a little weight and age on before surgery.

Question for all kitten people…It looks like 8 week old kittens should be about 2 pounds. The two oldest are close to that, but the other two younger ones are not. One is 1.3 pounds and the other is 1.2 pounds (Victoria’s younger kittens). Not a lot of gain since weighing in two weeks ago (but there is a gain). These little ones have had a rougher go because it is really hard to find a consistent supply of kitten wet food, so I’ve tapered them down to just a little wet and free choice Iams Kitten. I’m seeing recommendations for feeding them several small meals instead of free choice. Any thoughts? Kittens get diarrhea if you switch their wet food, so I can’t depend on that for anything more than supplemental. They’re eating about a tablespoon of wet food each per day.

:link: This one does show up much better than the one I found ( :chains: ). Thank you!

A friend is is a rescuer had a homemade food she made called kitten glop and it was to help add weight to the kittens. If you google it you can find the recipe online. You might also ask the vet for ideas as well.

One of mine once hopped down from the exam table and pooped on the floor when the vet came in…

The ladies are home! They estimated that Polly and Louisa were between 1and 2 years old (probably siblings vice mother and daughter, like the previous owner said). Victoria is only a year old. With six kittens! No wonder they were little.

Polly is negative for FIV. They get stitches out in two weeks (if we can catch them). They need crate rest for a couple more days and then workshop exploration before we turn them loose. Their crates are very clean and everything is fresh.

Oh, and Polly has 24 toes. Louisa has 19, lol. She has an extra toe.
