New forum is SOOO slow!

Is anyone else experiencing this? Now that the forum loads as a frame inside the Chronicle website instead of as a separate site, it’s incredibly slow to load.

Here are some times from this morning:

  • Loading this forum: 30.11 secs
  • Loading the “7 day work week” post: 14.24 secs
  • Hitting the Back button to return to the forum from that post: 14.89 secs

I have a 400mbps connection and this is the only site that’s slow, so I don’t think it’s on my end.

Yes. It is slow. They are working on it and the other problems with the roll out.

There is a thread for all the problems in the technical help forum.

It’s getting better though! Give it some time while they work out the kinks.

In unrelated news, US GDP mysteriously increases by 1% during the same time frame COTH is offline/slow

Ugh I do not like this new format!!! Slow and I can’t FIND anything! So irritated… and soooo 2020

Yeah, not a fan. Don’t care for the new look as it. Plus, half the page is taken up with ads. And finding anything is a PITA. It also seems kind of …I don’t know…for lack of a better word…kiddy-fied.

I do not find the ads to be any bigger than they were before. We just had lots of time there at the end, when the other forum was not working correctly, that we had no ads at all. I think we were spoiled by that so going back to the ads seems intrusive now.

The other day I was thankful for the ads because I did not know that Smartpak had started their 12 days of Christmas. I saw the ad here and clicked on it.

^^^^^ This.

Come on people, change is hard, nobody likes being forced to a new platform, especially when it’s SO different. You get used to it and figure it out if you’re willing to just treat it like a game, not a chore. You’re here voluntarily, you’re not paying the bills. This platform really isn’t hard to navigate once you just get familiar with where things are.

In defense of the frustrated posters - It was very hard to navigate (so unable to learn how to use it) when it was crashing and running so slowly.

Now that is running more quickly I am thinking people will be far less frustrated and will be able to learn some of the new features.

I have found several things it does that are nice.

Mine is better today.
On Monday I got timed out waiting for my log in

You’re right. Navigation is hard when things are slow or timing out. The look is here to stay, no matter if someone likes it. Sure, some things might be tweaked, every use can choose how to set up their defaults, but Discourse is just very different from vbulletin

yeah - life is too short to deal with this. Ill check back in a month or so and reevaluate, but for now, im out.

I am confused. Things are working quite quickly today. Compared to yesterday and the day before things could even be described as speedy.

Well that’s one way to not get used to navigating around :no_mouth:

Speed isn’t an issue today, or at least not for the last few hours.

And just when I post that speed is great I start getting the darn spinning wheel with each screen change again.
Hmpf!

yes - thats what happened to me too.
plus when i try to navigate back to main section it sends me all the way out. Im sure i wont be missed lol. Although, one change is that i am getting emails that i have a reply. I will try to figure out how to make that go away.

And it will resolve soon enough

can you screen shot what you click, and where you end up?

If I go to the top of the forum and click Off Course, I get taken to the list of Off Course threads. If I click the box with Off Course then, I see a list of all forums to choose from.

click your Avatar in the upper left, with your picture. Then click your username to the left, then click Preferences, then click Emails on the left. You have lots of Preferences options you can set in there. click everything and see what’s there
