New helmet technology

Looks very cool: https://newatlas.com/medical/carbon-nanotube-foam-helmet-liner-concussion/

Does anyone have any insight as to how long it takes to go from this stage (technology just announced) to equestrian helmets on the market?

As a person with MS this sounds abesolutely wonderful. Heat makes my MS symptoms worse. Even minor concussions make my MS worse.

I would save my money to buy a riding helmet made with this, that is for sure!

I wonder if it’s similar technology to this new ski/snowboard helmet that I just saw recently: https://antiordinary.co/

ooooo I would hope soon! I’d be very keen to upgrade my helmet to this (even if I did just get a new one six months ago).

Wow. I checked out the Anti-Ordinary helmet link and love, love, LOVE the direction they’re going! What a great technology. But … it doesn’t say what the weight is? (I’m assuming less than a traditional helmet, but would love to know the order of magnitude.)

This may be the future direction to go for vaulting. If it can be engineered to 1) be light enough that it doesn’t cause a neck-break risk due to the skull already being heavy compared to neck strength for sudden changes of direction/rotation/etc. (plus traditional helmets affect center of gravity due to size/weight), and 2) be held on some other way than a traditional fixed harness (should it get caught on something, it’s a broken neck since human necks remain a structural weak point.) This is the reason gymnasts don’t wear helmets … the risk of being hurt by the helmet is greater than the risk of concussion.

BUT! With technology and engineering, this could (maybe?) be overcome! Vaulters don’t get concussed a lot, but, horses are horses and things happen so it’s not unheard of.

Yay helmet technology! Everybody start thinking of a method of … suctioning the helmet to the head? Looping restraints around ears? (Discard that, I see visions of ears getting traumatized!) Hmmmmm.

Thanks for this thread!

(Edited because I’m incoherent.)
