New horse - has spur boot rubs.. hair growth?

hi all- i have a sweet new girl and she is wonderful!

a truly cosmetic issue… she needs a fair amount of leg and her previous owner rode her with spurs… she has spur/boot rubs down to the skin, and i would love the hair to grow back… anything i can do to help her along?

You can try human Vitamin E OIL Capsules. Break one open or prick with pin, apply twice daily.
As a side note, I recently started
My mare on Mad Barn Amino Trace +. She had bare, rubbed spots on each side of point of hips from rolling in sand.
For months they weren’t healing well plus the hair wasn’t growing back. After putting her on the Amino Trace plus, the spots are both almost healed over and the
Nice black hair is growing back.
So check the nutrition your horse is getting.

You could use a belly band while riding to avoid rubbing new hair off

I’ve had good success with Eqyss mega-tek for hair regrowth on my mare.

As an aside, when I first got her she was rather dull to my aids. Unfortunately due to a hind suspensory injury (twice :grimacing: ) we have had to do a lot of rehab including working in hand, walk work, and very slow reintroduction of trot. Through all the rehabbing she has really become less dull. She’s not hot, but she is sensitive in a lovely way. Sure there’s still some days where she needs a good reminder, but generally I’m very happy with how responsive she is now. So there is hope!

With new hair coming in, she may improve those areas by herself. Old hair gets more brittle, breaks off easier when rubbed consistantly, as time gets closer to spring shedding. We had stripes on horses sides from traces rubbing during driving times. I got some “more slippery” traces out to use and things improved. Never got fully bald and new hair came along nicely to fill in. Just something we had never had happen before.

The bellyband link is interesting! A new product to me.

I was going to suggest the bellyband as well. I had some boot rubs on the side of one of my ponies from riding him and I purchased and equifit bellyband. Worked perfectly and the rubs healed in no time. I see a lot of greys at shows with the bellybands as well as you can really see rub marks on a grey. My BO also rides her grey mare with a bellyband all the time.
