True, why my first answer was taking the OP at face value, even with some strange parts to the story.
Guess that we will have to see how this develops, before we can say much else.
Actually, the rubber bands might not be that strange. Lots of Arab owners (and owners of other breeds with long manes/tails) keep their manes and tails braided in thick “working braids” to keep them from getting tangled either while riding or while turned out.
We all know the stallion will go on to become a world champion. This is a great book. Were harnesses mentioned? We never have any really good driving horsey fiction. I mean, i think black beauty and king of the wind did a little driving. And cart pulling. But that wasn’t really their forte. The old mare will be ginger. That will be the tragic turn.

yeahbutt that is the absolute last thing OP needs to be thinking about with the monumental task of DIY hauling up to 1k miles and up to 20 hours EACH WAY (depending on exact locations in FL and Oh) to pick up a geriatric mare and never ridden ex stallion still a stallion at the moment.
And she did say “harness” in the second post. So best guess is kid with lofty goals and not much practical experience or knowledge. In which case I hope they don’t dismiss us as mean poopie heads and stay with us to learn.
Or [edit] we are mean poopie heads tired of getting punked into wasting time entertaining the punker because we responded by trying to be nice and helpful.
Aww, has to be a kid. Not even a trolly adult would put beads on the list of must-have items for a first horse.
When I was young I used to make lists of the things I needed in order to buy a horse too. and I would flip through the Southern States catalog trying to figure how much money I needed to save…

I did the same thing and mine would be just as amusing plus thinking I had a place with a friend to keep one without asking parents on either side. Hope it is a young person who wants to learn and can handle answers they may not agree with.
4 days & counting.
I think this thread can safely be labeled “Troll” or we are a bunch of mean old poopyheads & there’s a stud in FL who will never have his harness adorned with beads…
.
Ps rubber bands are for braiding his mane and tail to keep it from getting so tangled and dirty from time to time. Beads i already have and they have sentimental value as they are from my wedding gown when we were adjusting it and im sorry if it seems weird to you all but one of my happiest days was the day i married my husband and i can take those beads and decorate his browband and can be reminded of that special day and because getting ali is another important big day in my life. It is not a priority but more along the lines of something special i want to do. My priorities are putting together a first aid kit getting him a lead rope, halter and as much supplies as i can before he gets here. I dont know why you have to be so nasty about wanting to be prepared and wanting to spoil and love my first actual horse that will belong to me.

I think people are just worried for both you and the horses. I have arabians. I have had about three that I did not have saddle broke until over the age of 8. I currently have a 14 year old barely handled stallion, that will soon be gelded and hopefully started if he is sound enough for it. However, I have over 20 years in horse, and still have a trainer start them. I have the knowledge, but lack the true insight, and consistency to be a true service to the horse. A bad start no matter the age, can stick with them for a lifetime.
I am not trying to discourage you in any way. I think it is great you are willing to give them a good home. Just keep your expectations realistic. Oh, and I have gelded older breeding stallions before …most can usually be integrated into a mixed herd. It will all depend though on the individual horses in the herd.
That was a really, really long and detailed response. If poorly, poorly edited.
We plan to keep them separate. Also i do not expect to climb up on him and he be able to take me down a trail. I know he will take months if not years to train if he is trainable. Which my uncle says he is a very calm spirited horse and hed be fairly easy to train and after he has him gelded he will start his training.again if he didnt feel confident that i wasnt able to handle him he wouldnt have offered him to me. He is a very experienced horse breeder and trainer and always puts the riders and horses saftey first. I have looked at thousands of different horses and none have drawn me to them like ali has. I havent met him yet and yet i already feel a connection with him every time my uncle talks about him or shows me a picture. I love a challenge. I have 2 kids, 4 dogs, 2 cats, a ferret, and 4 fish. All of my animals have been animals nobody has wanted because of some reason weather they were too hard to train barked too much, got too old or just plain abused them. I think the reason i am so drawn towards ali is because i know hes going to need the work and effort. And i have the courage, will power, stamina, drive and resources to make him the best he can be. And if he ends up having to be a pasture horse that cant be riden that is fine by me. I am determined and dedicated to this horse.
Im not sure what you are trying to imply. But if you have a problem then you know how to move onto the next thread. I came to this page because i thought it was a group of people who loved and cares about horses.
Well if you’re now not getting him till Spring he may be able to get some good training on him. You should have time to save for a lead line and halter too.
As i said hes getting gelded this upcoming week, and we are waiting until spring to go get him. We are getting him i know that. But i was worried about trailering diah since she is 25. So not certain on her yet. But i know i want ali. His name is ali sarreef. Hes 13 years old and beautiful. I honestly cannot wait to get him. I already asked my uncle his sized for everything and i will get started getting things like head halter, lead rope, lunge line, and we go up to the property every weekend and next weekend we will start clearing out stumps, filling in any holes, start building a fence and shelter over the next couple months, get things like a water trough and feed buckets etc.
Sarah, why take on two aged untrained horses who you now expect may not ever be rideable? Especially as these will be your first horses. You are young. Are you not interested in riding?
We don’t know you. maybe you just want pets. But when you want to buy harnesses and decorate bros bands with beads from your wedding dress it does suggest you want useable horses. Please correct that misconception if we are interpreting incorrectly. We only have what you have written to go on.
A few points:
A novice horse owner and a recently gelded mature stallion is rarely a safe plan.
A novice horse owner with untrained horses is rarely a safe plan.
A novice horse owner with senior horses is rarely a good plan, for the horse.
Think long and hard about why you are doing this and what your plan of action will be if it doesn’t work either for you or the horses.
I do hope your uncle will take them back if there’s an issue.
I do hope you have a knowledgeable support team in place in Ohio, and I don’t mean your girlfriend who will share pasture space with you.
You need a good vet.
You need a good farrier.
You need an experienced trainer/instructor.
When we hear you focus on beads and rubber bands when you’ve never owned a horse, I’m sure you can understand why many of us assume you are a day dreaming child and not a responsible adult educating herself about horse ownership. Again, we have only what you have written to go on.
Diah the mare is trained already and has been a trail horse for many years and he uses her for beginners and kids. Shes all ready to go. Ali is the one who needs work. He will start his training and he will comtinue his training down here. We have plenty of people here to help us with his training and that are experienced with breaking horses. My uncle who is a trainer is going to start breaking him in to ride before we even come get him. I know not everyone believes in the same things. But ali is meant to be my horse. Every time i have turned around there has been a sign pointing towarda him and to getting him. We are confident we all can break him and he can be a great horse.
I am very much so interested in riding. I love riding. Have riden many of times. I go ride our friends mare every weekend. Now i need my own horse and i have a chance to get one. And hes absolutely the horse i want. I want a horse that i can work with.
