New little problem? Seems to have corrected ...

When I click post, the yellow “working” tab shows up and it hangs there for long time, several minutes some times, until the page finally changes and the post shows up.

I have at times, tired of waiting, clicked back and then it shows it was already posted?
Seems that it may be posting fast on the page, but hung on letting me see it, for several minutes at times?

It started that about the last week, the wait seems to be getting longer to changing to the new page showing the new post.

Anyone else having that problem?

Working out of a Mac laptop on Safari.

Edited to add that this post took 3:06 minutes to show it was posted.
When editing it takes a few seconds to change, doesn’t get hung up then.

Editing an existing post doesn’t take as long as posting a new post in my experience.

I do see a ‘pause’ between Post and when the page reloads and my post appears but not 3 minutes long. If it does seem to be taking a bit longer than normal, sometimes I just go to a different window or browser and work on something else until the reply is posted and page reloaded.

I use Safari on MacOS for COTH.
I also use Chrome on MacOS for some of my other internet activities.

I believe in sharing the wealth

I’ve noticed posting takes a little longer than usual, but also not three minutes. Maybe a few seconds longer? Five?

Consistent on mobile or desktop. PC with Firefox, Android phone with chrome.

Eta: this took 15 seconds from clicking post to showing up. Longer than normal but not what you’re seeing, bluey. Wonder if there is an inordinate amount of Internet traffic between you and the host servers.

If so, why does edit and post again only takes 1-2 seconds to flip pages?

You think if it was on the server side, it would be taking just as long no matter if it is the first post or any later edits?

Will time this post, see where we are now.

Edited to say, the “auto saved” yellow tab came on at 42 seconds, the post finally did show at 2.42 seconds from clicking “post”.

Will see how long it takes on this edit.
Took less than a second.

Dunno, but there’s a lot of red here:

A new post might be more information sent, or involve more connections somehow. But since the lag seems worst for you, something to do with your area or connection makes a fair amount of sense.

Or it could be something totally different. Just tossing ideas out there.

Yes, it could be, first posts going thru the filters use more time and that may let my connection go to a slower lane, but edits don’t go thru filters so slip right along.

The question is, why so slow now, the past week and not before?

If it is the server, maybe this will remedy itself, kids starting school may have made an extra demand of the systems and will self regulate eventually.
I guess we will never know if it sorts itself.

Edit to add, this time auto saved came on at 19 seconds, post show up at 48 seconds.

Inconsistent problems are the hardest to figure.

As suggested, it could be web traffic between where you are and where the server is. Those “highways” data packets travel on go down and data has to detour. That adds lag. There’s quite a lot of red on that page I linked.

I don’t know if that’s the issue, but it sounds plausible.

Let’s give it a little time to see if it resolves on its own, since it’s an inconsistent and new problem.

You could also try ye old failsafe of clearing the site’s cookies to see if that helps de-gum the works…

Please report back if it’s persisting and we can dig in further next week.

Thanks!

Posting for me is back to normal. Bluey? How about you?

Eta: this took four seconds to post.

Thank you, will report what happens over the weekend.

This post took 3.16 minutes to post, ugh.

Still at it and getting worse, twice the page would not change after waiting over 15 minutes.
I had to exit COTH and come back in and there it was, posted who knows how long.

Clearing the cookies has not made any difference.

I do think there is something wrong on my end, as no one else has complained about that glitch.
My laptop is getting older, that may be one reason for odd stuff.
Was hoping someone else may have that problem and could help solve it.

Will keep watching, see where this ends or if it clears on it’s own, as other glitches have done.

Edited to add, this post only took .38 seconds to post!

Crazy stuff, so inconsistent makes it hard to figure.

Bluey, every once in a while, for me rarely, COTH will slow way down for me… to the point I don’t wait for the page to load. When it happens, I navigate away from the page to a completely different website (I think any one will do as long as not COTH), then return back to COTH and the hang/slow no longer occurs.

Got no clue why but thought I would throw this out there…

MacOS, Safari, desktop.

Must be something then with Mac/Safari/desktop and hopefully it will turn loose again and go to working properly all the time.

Thanks all of you for helping.

Edited to say, this one took 2.08 minutes to post.

Bluey, you seem to get the ‘hang’ way more often than I do :frowning:

Mine is rarely. My MacOS is up to date 10.13.6 - no ad blockers, stop plug-ins to save power, don’t block cookies, JavaScript is enabled, I don’t block pop-ups… that’s about it…

oh, no virus checker or anything (I had Sophos installed for quite some time and then after a MacOS update Sophos broke TimeMachine so I de-installed Sophos).
