New Mexico ~ Stables & Blacksmiths

Looking to relocate to (north/east) part of New Mexico (near Taos) not too far from bordering Colorado. Does anyone know of a boarding facility and/or Blacksmith.

I don’t necessarily need much in a facility & it can be an hour or more drive from Taos. As long as the horses have protection from elements, safe location, safe facility, adequete turn-out, plenty of good feed, fresh water source & knowledgeable caretakers. You know the same that every loving horse owner would want for their horses

In a Blacksmith I need a patient person who doesn’t believe in “man-handling”. My horses are quiet, well trained, retired show horses. Its just that One horse in particular has issues. The horse has slight string halt bad enough so the back feet need to be held close to the ground while trimming. Due to issues the horse is also a leaner & requires more breaks. Sometimes the hind legs jerk up or out spontaneously when the horse moves. I need somebody understanding & compassionate to horse’s problems not a hot head who will get mad in ways as to start whacking the horse.

Hay Suppliers ~ In addition any leads for hay purchasing ? Gosh REALLY expen$ive Hay in that area. Makes me wish I had a mini instead of my oversized Hoovers

I don’t know that area at all, so am no help. However, if you’re on facebook go to New Mexico Horsemen https://www.facebook.com/groups/35640572144/ Chances are someone there will know.

That sounds like a good idea & I will check on New Mexico Horseman  The area is rather isolated so I wasn’t expecting many replies … Thank You for the resource, which will now be my starting point !!!

I lived near Taos, but over 10 years ago so I don’t have much specific information. However, I do have a couple contacts in the area. I’ll pm you with some thoughts…

There a couple of small barns in taos, even fewer in espanola. One semi hidden Arab farm in Nambe. Nothing in the way of shows for Northern NM, ABQ has all the shows. Edgewood/Moriarty is where you will find all the horse people. You will find most of us NM horse people in the NM Horsemen board. There is also a NM hay board…

If you are an endurance rider I can hook you up with some people that do endurance but there isn’t a huge group of them. We also have a good Mule/Donkey community as well.
