If you want to look a hunter crossover at a dressage show, then they’re fine – no one would say a thing about it. To me, they’re way too casual for dressage competition. They look like fashion boots.
What’s wrong with looking like a hunter crossover at a dressage show? We actively reach out to the hunter people and encourage them to participate in our shows. Really, there’s no need for pearl clutching at the thought of hunter people riding in dressage shows.

Popping over here from hunter-land, but I have found that to be true in my area as well! I showed my past 2 horses (both hunters that could dabble in the jumpers if I so desired) in dressage, and even did a working student stint at a large upper-level dressage barn. The only reason my current horse hasn’t shown dressage is because the dressage shows moved and aren’t at our home facility anymore so they are out of the budget.
I have always shown dressage in my close contact saddle, hell I even showed my mare in a figure 8, since she broke my regular cavesson bridle two days before a show. Still ended up 2nd level champion at that show! Everyone was always very friendly and no one made any snarky remarks about my tack (at least not to my face!)
Also here from H/J world. I really need a new schooling boot and LOVE the brown of both the Serengetti and the Sovereign. Could any users attest to their durability/comfort for day to day use in riding?

I’ve wanted the Sovereign boots in brown since I heard they were coming out. Too bad MH doesn’t make anything in short sizes.
I too wish they offered these lovely boots in a shorter size. My measurement from knee to floor is 16 inches – no way the Sovereign boots would drop enough for me. Waaaaah!
Mine literally arrived today, so I haven’t ridden in them, but for those considering:
From Dover they are $339 + shipping.
From Adam’s Horse Supplies they are $305 with free shipping, AND they throw in a free bootbag.
The regular calf was too big for me, so I sent them back and the slims have just arrived and fit like a glove.
Can’t wait to ride in them tomorrow!
meupatdoes, did you get brown boots or the black ones in slim?

Oo, do post lots of pictures of them! I’m really curious what they look like in non-stock pictures! And I would love to hear your thoughts on keeping them clean. I feel like once you get the canvas dirty there’s no going back.
Love these! Just did search and they are available through cavalier, in canada, but are 460 $!
But will have a look at the Royal to see if there are any bargains.

For showing?

As a rule of thumb, match your boots to your jacket (and helmet, ideally) and match your saddle to your bridle.
Keep in mind lots of things are ‘legal’ but a judge may or may not consider them in poor taste. I once overheard a ‘conversation’ about a dark purple jacket
I am thinking of getting these too. Mostly for schooling, and Cubbing, but also might ride XC in them (my ‘colors’ are ‘neutrals’ lol! And I always opt for tan breeches!). I would NOT show dressage in them, but that’s personal taste. I would Show jump in them in my Hacking jacket or another light colored jacket, and probably only in the Fall (aka Cubbing season).
