New Organization- United Dressage Jumping Club (UDJC)

It’s in the PDF I provided of the THJA

In this, they were sued because they would not allow a trainer banned from showing at USEF shows under Safesport to show in their organization. Their belief is that he is banned by Safesport under USEF and they are extending that protection to minors under their organization. His belief is that because THJA isn’t under the USEF umbrella they aren’t allowed to ban him.

They discussed rewording their mission statement to relieve them of future liability (not an option) and the financial drain of multiple lawsuits.

Thanks for the clarification. In the original post by another poster, I thought “they” meant UDJC. It makes more sense that it was THJA.

I think this is a tough question for any horse organization that hosts events and competitions.

One of the results of Safesport is that now we know a lot of things that we did not used to know. Other than occasionally through rumor and gossip.

And now it would seem that the glacial process of Safesport means that what we know from it may not be a complete picture. I get it, Safesport is under-resourced and the slowness is likely due to backlog. But obviously it is causing a spreading ripple of problems.

But many people on this thread questioned the UDJC about what they planned on doing if a trainer on the Safesport list showed up at their shows. Were even upset because now banned trainers had a show to attend.

Yet here is clearly the answer. You either let them show, knowing who they are and what they did, or you prepare for a lawsuit.

Their social media promotion of good “horsemanship” is interesting, showing multiple clips of a rider doing dressage and jumping tests in a standing martingale so tight that it’s holding the horse’s head in a vertical position.

And poof – they removed that video

It seems that UDJC may have moved their next show date … a bit confused on this. Had made a note that it was Feb. 8-9 and the third show in March. But their website now shows the second show on Feb. 28-March 2nd and the third show in April. Maybe I had it wrong, though. Still at Great Southwest.

The first show earlier in January was two days, Saturday-Sunday. The next two appear to be three days beginning on Friday.

Just interesting. Don’t know what it means. Maybe not much.

A much better chance of not having an icy weather week on the Feb/March date.

Don’t know if it matters that we’ve had two weeks in January of weather far colder than the norm for winter, here – in Great SW Eq Center’s backyard. It’s not that it’s happening on show dates, but it is making it very hard to get in the productive rides to have a prepared horse & rider. There are covered arenas here but almost no indoor arenas. As mentioned, people here often just do not have the clothing for this weather. Horses react to cold as well as riders. Anyway, although a nice weekend is supposedly coming up, we are all a little nervous about the weather for February.

But if the same person also has the money to launch 2 lawsuits, couldn’t that maybe mean they felt that they were skilled enough to represent themselves and were in fact not?

Very few people forego a lawyer because they think they know better. Especially in the criminal realm.

I think it’s more likely that someone who has had a lawyer for other things and then did something pro se is probably someone who ran out of money to pay the lawyer. Lawsuits are not cheap.

Some of our actions were in the same regulatory court with the same judge and same defendants, just a couple of years apart. One with a lawyer, one pro se. We got a much different treatment when we had the lawyer officially representing us….ie, no overt rule breaking or bias. We even managed to get a neutral decision.

And so you think that this person being discussed is innocent primarily because they went Pro Se?

I think the first date had to be a mistake, because that is in the middle of Winter Series. Maybe they published it before locking it down? Or maybe with the changes at GSWEC and how late they’ve been getting stuff out, they double booked? Either way. I think the Feb/March date might fare better weather wise. I hated going to Winter Series because I was always freezing.

Not necessarily. I just recognize it is a possibility. The level of coercion and corruption that is present in the legal system makes it impossible to just write off the possibility, which is ultimately a shame. We also saw in the Barisone ordeal a lawsuit where the police argued all of the legal decisions that allow them to not actually have to investigate or follow evidence.

Totally agree that revised dates are a much better chance at good weather … even though not fully outside the possible winter storm. Is there a winter storm quota, could we be using up the supply of winter storms this week and this is the last one ??? :upside_down_face:  :snowflake:

It can be kind of a harmless joke – how many shows can Great SW run at the same time? There are often more than one on the schedule.

At Great SW, the Feb. 28 - March 2 dates ALSO have the Emerald Classic Dressage show AND an NRHA reining show, the Great Escape Winter Slide. The UDJC show isn’t listed anywhere on the Great SW site but as we saw in January, that didn’t mean it wouldn’t happen.

The present date for UDJA #3, April 18-20, also has the Spindletop Arabian Horse Show on that weekend.

The UDJC FB page is still featuring videos from show #1. No comments yet on next up. But of course it’s a month away.

Whatever it all means!

There is never another show running during an A/AA H/J show.

There are times they will run 2 shows but it is generally a dressage show/reining show or GHHJA show/dressage show type of thing.

The Reiners & Dressage Horse could work and they’ve combined a smaller reiner show with another show before. The reiners just use the two indoors to actually show in, and it won’t be NRBC big, but I don’t know where you’d fit a third show that same weekend. That definitely seems impossible.

Just an update on this organization:

There is a show in TX this weekend. According to the FB page there are 29 horses in the 85 cm class. I’ve seen a show series advertised in Oklahoma. And I’ve heard there are two other states where someone has signed up to run shows.

I’ve just seen a show posted in MO for sometime in June. A local hunter/jumper barns converted one of their normal schooling show dates. No schedule or anything available yet, at least from what I’ve seen.

That one is local to me! Our barn is considering going but are waiting for more info (costs mostly). We have a very healthy H/J schooling show circuit here that is fairly affordable. With UJDC’s claim of being more affordable, we are playing the wait and see if it’s true game. I can’t imagine the prices will be any different than the typical schooling show there, and I believe with the late date addition that show won’t count for points with local orgs which might mean lower turnout. It will be interesting to see how it plays out!

It is a very affordable show. My instructor went to the last one in Katy.

But no, the show probably won’t count with the local orgs because they are not based on USEF showing. The group is trying to be something else, and their judging criteria and focus is different.
