New pony PART II

A saddle fitter visited today. My plan was to go the Wintec route for the sake of lightness/weight. I had delivered an all purpose Winteclite Luxe, 18”…the new pony is a draft pony cross, very much a drafty body on short legs, but still a rib cage short enough to require a “pony”/short-backed saddle. I, on the other hand, need at least 18”….Wintec probably will not work for us. The fitter suggests trying to find a Sommer, which is lighter than many saddles, but can be adjusted. Has anyone successfully resolved this conundrum without going the custom route?

Black country saddles tend to run short. Also Faitfaxes. I ride a large pony, but he is not a draft cross. I also need an 18". Try to keep the length of the saddle such that is doesn’t go past the last rib. The easiest way to find the correct spot is to find the edge of the rib lower and then follow it up.
