New Rambo and Rhino Blankets

My Jeffers Rambo Duo Force came - all correct sizing and all parts accounted for. I love it! Glad I took a chance.

I have a couple reports. Yes, I said I would not be ordering more blankets. But, I did have a liner mishap that really had me re-think the danger of liners if you’re not paying attention.

So one morning, running late to work, I must not have attached the front of the liner on my mustang guy. Ugh. Right. So my husband calls me in afternoon as says he’s out of the drylot out eating grass behind the barn. That’s always a moment of 20 grand well spent in perimeter fence. Turns out he’d gone through/over my coated wire fence. Snapped a post even.

Do you know I found no injury, no swelling and boy did I get lucky. I’m sure there had to be bruising somewhere but I could not find it. No lameness. No ground marks on the other side of the fence. Don’t know if he jumped but that would over 4 feet. So big mystery. Here’s the liner and there were deep ruts in my dry lot where I could he was panicking and running around. Ugh again.

So suddenly I rethought liners - for a guy like him could be really dangerous if I spaced out again. He does have some trauma from it and I need to train on that - reduce the anxiety about things hanging off behind.

So I decided if I went up to 250 grams for overnight and super cold weather I could avoid a liner most of the time. I’d read here good things about the Amigo XL and the Rhino Hexstop, so as any addict would, I ordered them both. Right? Thought if one fit poorly I’d return it but otherwise… keep em both.

They arrived today and I like them both. They’re light and this guy tapes at a 72 but a 75 fits better - except the Optimo which the 2024 version runs bigger. I do still like the Wug more on him. The fit at the shoulder. These both feel and hang just a wee bit snugger in the shoulder than I’d like. I LOVE the Optimo fit on him with two liners under it getting to 300 grams for these really cold nights. He runs cold - PSSM.

Both these blankets have a double layer closure - not the triple that the Rambos have but two solid closures feels OK enough.

Here’s pics if it helps anyone:

I will add too that I never heard from HorseLoverz on the return of the Optimo that isn’t waterproof but I love it so much and they have no sizes left. So for $168 I’m inclined to try the Nikwax stuff and get it done. Love that blanket.

Yikes @PaddockWood! Glad he has no major injuries.

Tell me what I’m missing. I find the “Bag for Life” to be worthless. Planning to get w hubby to see how he might use them but otherwise… and I’m a super duper committed recycler…so putting in the landfill sounds awful.

I prefer the old bags too. The zipper was nice. These new ones suck, especially since they came with a bundle and is stupidly large and bulky.

Yes! Hate the bag for life. I can barely get the blanket out let alone back in afterwards. I have a ginormous Schneiders bag from last year I am using.

And I remember in their marketing since PE bought them they’d market the bag like it was a big deal. No, waterproof is a big deal. You knew horse people weren’t behind things at that point.

Yeah, I don’t care for the bag, but I don’t hate it either. I like the older style bags (flatter and more square) and would’ve been fine with that, just a bit stronger (sometimes the zipper broke or plastic ripped).

I have seen people selling the bags for life in various FB groups, which is interesting to me. I don’t know if they’re getting anything for them though.

That’s good to know. It would pain me greatly to put them in the trash. That will not happen.

I have a retired horse with a large collection of blankets he will never need, all size 81, all turnouts, lightly used. PM me if you’re curious about the details.
