New Secretariat book to come out around movie time

Kate Chenery Tweedy, Penny’s daughter, has written a book about the land that became The Meadow, and about the horses who lived there and the people who were involved in their lives. I saw a copy of the book yesterday at the TRF event at Colonial Downs, and it is AWESOME! Never before seen pictures, new interviews and stories of the people and horses, in a beautiful package. I ordered mine on the spot!

Here http://www.secretariatsmeadow.com/ is the website. It is a coffee table type book and I can’t wait to get mine.

Also, Kate is very excited about the movie and said the family had been involved from the get-go. She thinks it will be very authentic.

I saw a preview for the movie when I took my son to see Toy Story 3, and I was skeptical about the movie, but truly it looks awesome.

I saw the preview before Toy Story too. I was hoping that the preview was arranged for that particular audience. It was pretty Disney-esque. I’m hoping that it’s authentic- seems like the Secretariat story is fantastic enough without fictionalizing it too much.

Sigh. My horse’s dam is a granddaughter of Secretariat (her sire was clever secret). Just sayin’.

Secretariat great great grand kids here, and two broodmares who are great granddaughters. One through Terlingua the other through Secrettame. Can’t wait for the movie!

thanks Laurie for the info about the book, a must have!

Great Great Granddaughters:

  2. Karissa just 3 months old http://www.herselffarm.com/images/karat_3%20months3CROPPEDsmall.jpg This one has Secretariat’s personality! She was born 3/31, the day after Secretariat’s birthday.

It is a very lovely book and I can’t wait to get mine.

Somewhere on the website they ask you to post about your Secretariat relatives. Be sure to do that!

Yeah, yeah … twist my arm. Maybe I’ll buy it, then.

Consider it twisted, cyber style! ;D

This book is now out. Has anyone gotten a copy? It is a stunner, with lots of great pictures, and the real story behind the land and the family that was so large a part of racing for so long. Secretariat was the culmination, but The Meadow and the Chenerys had a long, rich history in racing.

If you haven’t seen the book, I highly recommend it. $19.77 at Amazon. The authors have lots of events coming up and will be happy to autograph it if an event is near you!

bought it today to read on the plane to Cali…
I will post a review after finishing…lol
