New SmartPak Flyspray

Does anybody know anything about the new fly spray that SmartPak has for sale? It’s called OutSmart. It’s supposed to be non toxic and works on flies, ticks, and mosquitos. Currently it is on sale with an additional buy 2, get 1 deal. I hate using toxic sprays all summer and would love to find something more natural, but it’s got to work.

Subscribing to see what others post. Sounds interesting.

I did not order any but I did tell another Cother who has ordered several bottles today. So we’ll see what she says when she sprays her horse with it.

I’m sticking with tritec since both smartpak last year and Doctors Foster&Smith have run some great deals of gallons of it. Which we use down south for so many months now.

Also interested in what others post. I am of the opinion that fly spray works for 15 minutes and that’s that, but I do use fly sprays that also work as tick repellants, and if there’s a more natural product that actually does that then I am intrigued.

I’m curious to hear reviews as well. I’m always looking for a better product. I have cows border one side of the property and a backyard horse owner whose property is a manure pit neighboring the other side, so I’m constantly battling flies. I’m currently liking the Pyranah Water Based best, but I’d love a non-toxic option that actually works for my situation.

I am curious as well. I am currently using Auntie Em’s Fly spray (http://www.auntieemsproducts.com/products.html), also billed as non-toxic and a deodorant, as opposed to a fly killer. It works pretty well most of the time. It loses a bit of effectiveness when the flies are rampant in the high heat of summer. One thing I like about it, aside from the fact that it works pretty well, is that it’s a concentrate, so more cost effective.

I’m curious about it also. I love Pyranha, especially for the show pen.

Bumping up, anyone actually used this yet? OutSmart?

Did not work for me at all! The flies left while I was spraying, but were back before it even dried. Also leaves a bit of a sticky residue. Can not recommend and surprised that anyone has left a positive review on the SP site.

Excited to try Fly-Bye! which was recommended on another COTH thread.

I have used it and it worked well enough (good for a ride, not for a day). HOWEVER–my mare had a bad reaction to it: flaking dry skin. So I’m not using it. Another horse at my barn had the same problem. So beware and maybe don’t buy too much to start with!

I don’t like it at all. It is hard to keep fully emulsified - the oil separates and conceals into a mass at the top of the bottle and I have had a hard time shaking it to remix (the mass just sits there, like trying to shake crisco and water to blend). It does leave a residue when I do manage to get it to spray. Just not a fan at all.

Do any of them work? I’m not a believer.

Not really.
Though I guess some work better than others.

I’m using it - it seems to be as effective as the Absorbine Ultra Shield that we’ve used the past couple of years. It has a strong but not unpleasant smell.

Two of my horses are out together and always near each other. One won’t have anything to do with fly spray and the other is fine. The sprayed horse definitely has less flies on her. I think it lasts about as long as any other spray I’ve used (not as long as advertised). I just ordered more. I really like that it’s nontoxic.

FWIW, every non-glowing review of a product I have made on SP’s site in the past several months has not been published.

I’m about half way through a gallon of it. It seems to work just as well as any other fly spray I’ve used. I like the smell (it is strong). As previously mentioned, it does need to be mixed prior to use each time as it separates out (not a big deal for me).

So not trying to steal the thread but I will put in a plug for the new stuff that Dover is carrying. I was a bit hesitant since most things I have purchased only work for short periods of time if at all.

It’s called Eco-Vet Fly Spray. Its chemical free and EPA approved. To test it, there were horses already turned out so I sprayed my boy, don’t need much You just need a light squeeze and sweeping motion and you can cover the horse in about 3 squirts…not something you need to douse your horse in. I then turned him out curious to see what would happen. I hung out for a couple hours and my boy never swished his tail or tossed his heads to get the flies off. I was amazed. The others were constantly swishing tails but my boy was pretty happy and content and this even when he was right up against another horse.

Definitely definitely recommend! I will add a note that it works on whatever is out right now in my area in Central Virginia, so I know the bugs change with the seasons. We don’t really have gnats out yet so I will be curious to see what it does with those buggers.

I was going to try it until I saw that it said it would deter flies for only 4 hours. I’ve got much better luck with Pyranha.

Plus will all the rain here in OK, I’m not sure anything will work on the birds we have. Err…I mean mosquitoes.

make the reviews on Dover S instead… but denote it was purchased at SmartPak. Dover is building quite the comprehensive review ‘library’ - I love it.

Also, FWIW, the ONLY thing I’ve found to work is Absorbine ULTRASHIELD in the black bottle.
