New super white look of the website.....

Although it is not as stark white as it was, I still find it hard on the eyes. I gave it a bit to see if I could adjust but between that and the tiny font size I’m still squinting. I have not been on as much in the past couple of days, it just seems like too much work.
I also miss the Today’s Posts feature. The Latest Post feature is hard to find and generally annoying. I’m really trying to like the newness, but I’m afraid it’s an uphill battle.

Have you clicked “Today’s Posts” above the “Home” link on the left? It’s just under the grey bar at the top.

Will take some getting used to…I think it’s still way too bright. Makes for headaches!

Glad you pointed out this feature…it was NOT “intuitively obvious”…as a physics prof used to regularly answer to question from his perennially perplexed students.

Today’s post is better than Latest post but it would be nice if it only showed threads and not every recent post within a thread.

Simke, thank you! I could not find the Today’s Posts until you pointed it out Well, I think I had it on the first day of the change and then somehow lost it. I truly am having a hard time seeing half this stuff

Another vote for LARGER, BOLDER type! Yes, the overall look is too bright. The eye seeks relief in a few darker colors.

Ugh. Trying to get used to it but not a fan. I’m not reading a lit of threads because it just seems like it’s too much work and I find myself getting irritated.

In the different sections, like Off Course for instance, I don’t like the lack of poster info. I can’t see when a thread was started and who started it unless I click on the thread.

The old COTH had lighter and darker text for threads that had already been read or not. I miss that.

This new board just seems to take more time to read so I haven’t been bothering. Maybe that’s a good thing for me. I can get more stuff done around here when I’m not on COTH!

I am thankful we have forums and that COTH works to update them. I am a magazine subscriber but not a “Premium” member so I appreciate them.

i have a few suggestions. I would like to have the old buttons…now you have to remember what page of comments you were on, type it in and then hit enter. A lot of footwork. The old threads had a page 1,2,3,4,5 end button at the top, I think? I would like that feature again.

the “likes” don’t show up on the mobile version. Not a big deal but I am sure it is reducing the usefulness of that feature. You can like a post on the drop menu but can’t see how many likes a post has. I liked that option because it seemed to give a hint how most people felt about a thread. More than just the people who posted which is far fewer than those who would “like” an opinion I am sure. I continue to agree with not having a “thumbs down.” It gives the wrong feel to the community.

i miss the feature where you can see who the most recent poster was. I tend to recall that sort of thing and liked to see if I had seen something before. I find myself opening posts I have read in their entirety because I can’t tell. I don’t love the “today’s post” instead because you can’t see everything at once and the whole discussion, it is too disjointed for me. Not your fault, but the “last poster” info is better for me.

when I adjusted my settings to permit 30 posts, it applies only to the thread, not the main discussion board. I still only get 10 there.

these are not really complaints, just points for optimization. Thank you for this forum!

A lot of these issues are being discussed in the help forum and many are on the list for the devs to fix

There are also several threads going over there for feedback.  COTH is listening!

@fordtraktor that’s quite odd you’re still only getting 10 posts on a forum page. That was one of the first things changed–within the first 48 hours? Are you getting that on mobile or computer? I’m wondering if that might be a simple “clear your cache” sort of fix.

It’s free, so not a problem - although I am sure that I have seen this format in other blogs in the 2000s - around 2007/8.
I have had to re-add to favourites tho’ for some reason - but that could be my new laptop.

And the Forum has also reverted to my old handle and location that I updated years ago to my actual name RaeHughes

I giggle because I think we had just as many “the forum is going to die” posts when we updated last time, but some how we all got used to it and it became the new norm that we are now comparing this upgrade to.

(Said by someone who hates change too.)

RIGHT?!

People hated (HAAATED, passionately) the green side bars.

It won’t die, but this new format is clunky and WHITE!!!

I have a free app called Dimly, which is a blue light filter, on my tablets. I could not be without it. I truly despise bright light (and fluorescent bulbs). It makes me feel sick and agitated. I am not sure why some think people want BRIGHT, BRIGHT, BRIGHT! :dead:

Another vote for larger, bolder type. This format is not user friendly for older eyes.

It’s still TOO BRIGHT! Please fix! How about lose the white and do a beige background?

How about you posts in the help forum where there are threads about the forum changes. The moderation staff will see it there.

I agree. There also is inadequate contrast between text and background, which means the designer flunked User Interface 101.
