New super white look of the website.....

So, I love these forums and this website in general but the new SUPER white look of the whole site (especially the forums) is not working for me. It feels less comfortable to read and peruse, I am not a web site designer but it just feels to start and white. Anyone else bothered by this new look, or am I just bad with change?

Yup! Gives me a migraine. I;m trying to adjust because I love coth, but I am struggling

Is it just me, or have the forums seemed less active since the switch? Still active of course, but I feel like posts just don’t blow up like they used to. Blow up not in a bad way of course, but in rapid fire reponse rate. I used to be so entertained all day by checking in on threads, but now they seem slower to develop?

Maybe I’m the only one who feels that way? But maybe it’s part of the adjustment period…it’s taking me a while to get used to it. I know the old forum had problems, but I was used to it and like it, dang it!

The address on my bookmark bar took me to a page that said the site wasn’t working. It took me a few days to figure out that there was probably a change somewhere in the addy.

There are several threads started by @Moderator 1 in the help section of the forum discussing issues with the new format. I am sure if you added your comments there they would probably get seen more quickly.

I can say that the color/look of the forum is on the list.

@ChasPonyCat the forum does seem quite a bit more quiet since the change over. I am sure some of that has to do people getting used to the new things.

I thought the forums have seemed quiet as well. I also noticed that it is easier to navigate, post etc. on my laptop where as before the change, my phone worked just fine.

@Chief2 I just sent a message to the main office to recommend we send a message to users (after we finish ironing out the big issues) to let them know we’re up and running, and to include a current URL, in case others experienced the same issue you did. Thanks!

We’ve made some changes in the background colors already and increased the font size in the forums to improve readability, but if you’re still having trouble, please feel free to comment with suggestions in the Help forum.

We’ve been addressing various issues that may affect how many users are online or how they use the site, plus, I’m sure it’ll just take folks a little time to get back in the swing, get used to the new pulleys and levers, and re-establish their typical browsing and posting habits.

It’s probably a good thing we have had a bit of a lighter load the past few days!
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Please visit the Help forum to provide further comments, so we’re sure to see them.

I appreciate the increase in the font size. I don’t need reading glasses, but it seems to cause less strain on my eyes.

Thanks!!

I agree, the bright-white hurts my eyes after a time. I’ve dulled my screen down quite a bit to compensate. I much prefer darker-shaded webpages.

Nice to see I’m not the only one. I guess it might take some time to get used to. I couldn’t log in for a couple of days until I took the time to figure things out. I am really not interested taking the time to constantly upgrade my usability knowledge any more. When this happens I tend to “drop out”.

Not interested in keep website designers employed. Most websites these days IMO are WAY to artsy and time consuming to use and or check out.

I find the old site/format more inviting.

Perhaps the new format works better for those who only use a tablet, Ipad/phone, smart phone etc. I don’t. My Iphone is strictly used for phone, text and emails when I am on the road. Other wise the email is turned off. I don’t much like using my Ipad in general. Pretty much on the road use only.

I only read and post from my desktop and nice size monitor.

They already muted the gray we post on some.
Compared with both sides, it is darker.

Not a fan…I miss having the OP’s name listed with each thread on group pages…was a handy feature to seperate some must reads from must skips or find threads that were referenced in others.

I don’t like the new site look or the forum look. The site looks cheap and out of the box dumpy. Not what I expect from COTH. The forums are now not user friendly, nor fun in their capabilities. I don’t think it’s a matter of people getting used to it. I think people are frustrated by it. If the CEO’s plan was to kill traffic and this lose advertisers, I think they are well on their way to achieving their goal.

I still would like a larger font… Please!!

I agree with Velvet: my first impression was that it looks cheap. Second thought was there was an intent to kill traffic.

The white hurts my eyes too.

I like reading and keeping up with the different threads (just starting to post, I’m a chicken …), and the white is very stark and does hurt my eyes after awhile. It’s just too bright.

I agree it’s just too hard on my eyes It gives me a headache.

I think the font needs to be bigger and bold/darker. It’s too small and light to read.

I agree it’s been slower lately. I’m definitely on less because of the new format. I liked the Today’s Posts feature bc it made it easy to catch up. All the info you needed about which forum it was in, who was the OP, and how many replies there were was clearly visible. Now there’s the Latest Posts thing that doesn’t show all of that so clearly. I skip over some thinking they’re Off-Topic or Menagerie but it’s hard to be sure. And if you open one then go back in your browser, you have to click on Latest Posts all over again and scroll down to find where you left off. It’s annoying! I’ve started going to the individual forums but I’m sure I’ll miss things in the ones I don’t check as often. Is there a better way to do this that I’m missing??

I’m trying not to be that person who just hates change, but ugh.

I love COTH but this new format feels like a massive step backwards. I think horse city was rocking a similar format back in…2007 maybe.

The forum has also been dead since the switch. It makes me afraid that this is the beginning of the end for COTH.
