New to COTH :D Connemara breeder here :)

Good day!

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to fellow breeders! I am new to the COTH board (lurked for a little bit) and finally decided to join!

I live in Muskoka, Ontario and am a small breeder of Connemara ponies (as well as an off farm job that pays for all that!). I stand my Sr stallion Tintagels Tibyl (by Hohnhorst Brannigan out of Tintagels Scoth) and have a Jr stallion I recently imorted, Blue Ridge Patrick Henry by Moxley Duncan out of Hayselden Persephone.

Looking forward to learning more and reading about other folks breeding programs etc.

Cheers!
Janet

Hi Janet and welcome! We have a great group of Connemara breeders and fans here on the SHB forum.

I am an ID breeder but have in the past owned some Connemara crosses and an adorable purebred gelding by Moxley Duncan (love him!). Nature willing I will be welcoming a Connemara x ID foal next year.

Best wishes,

When I was a little girl I wanted a Connemara SO BAD!!! Still do, but I’m a bit big, lol.

Welcome!

However, you should be on notice that you must post pictures…

Welcome!

Waterwitch - I love the IDs too  I have an ID mare at the moment Harkaway Bunny Herself as well as an ID/ConnieX yearling who is an utter dote! Also have a 17.3hh ID gelding leased out (permanently I think) to a wonderful lady who adored him - and is fine with his size!.

Pics (if you would like to peek) are on my website

I would post some here, but am at work and this computer is about as useful as a paperweight.

Thanks all!
Janet

Welcome! I love Muskoka AND Connemaras!

We had a cottage in Muskoka when I was growing up, and it was a wonderfully happy time!
I don’t have a Connemara (yet), although I did ship semen to one last week! - does that count at all?

Small world! I used to own her half brother Harkaway Lionhawk. I am expecting a purebred foal by him any day now. I was wondering what happened to Bunny. Glad she has found a permanent home. Are you breeding her?

Fred - thanks for the welcome… I think you know me on other boards as “Aricia” though. One day you will get a Connemara if I have to GIVE one to you. EVERYONE needs a Connie in their life

I am currently leasing her on a breeding lease, but as of yet, my stallion is not overly interested in her. :S She is 16.2-3, he is a bit over 14hh, so not sure if that has anything to do with it (my teaser mini is aflame with lust, but he doesn’t even readh her hocks  ) SO, if he takes an interest in her eventually I would like to see what she would throw. That front left foot of hers makes me want to not take a chance on an outside stallion though in case she passes it along.
At least with my own lad it would just be vet costs and live cover. Less risk financially should the baby have a slightly crooked foot too. Shame really, but we shall see what happens. She is certainly a sweetie pie and I am going to clamber up on her at some point as I was told she has been schooled to about 2nd level at any rate

Welcome  Another ID person with a soft spot for the Connie.

Hello and Welcome–nice to see another Connemara Breeder/Rider posting over here! I’ve enjoyed your foal photos and updates on FB!

Lisa (Redbud Ranch Connemaras aka goodpony!)

Hey Lisa!
I know I certainly drool over your ponies and pictures!!! swoon lol

Thank You (grin)
There are quite a few Connemara Breeders and Enthusiasts as well as LOTS of pony breeders of all sorts here. Hopefully some more will check in here. Some are focusing more on the purebreds others partbreds and some a bit of both.

This year we are doing a couple of partbreds out of related TBs (one by Pleasant Tap the other by Cherokee Colony–they are sister out of the same mare). The are different types–one very leggy and tall (17.2) and the other more moderate (16.2) and of slightly heavier body type. It will be interesting to see what we get. The last is a purebred from our Premium Mare Glenormiston Amelia—this will be a full sibling to my R. Celtic Tiger who is now out in Montana living the good life (hopefully going eventing).

Welcome to COTH

Some great fellow Connemara people on here and definitely one of the best horsey spots on the Internet.

You know us  Windy Isles standing *The Quietman and home to the Midwest Show

Welcome. There are not just breeders here but fans as well. I just sold my purebred since she decided that she wanted to be a hunter pony and have a kid of her own, but she was definitely one of the most amazing equines I have ever owned or ridden. I thought I was going to go back to horses, but really think I just need to find a bigger purebred or partbred. I actually thought I didn’t like them until I owned one, now I am their biggest fan.

I breed purebreds and halfbreds, so welcome!

I just started riding a half-bred that I bred (she is 3) and I am SO in love. She has the movement of the trakehner and the brain of the connemara…and she is 15.2. Perfection for me!

I board where your Duncan Baby was born and he has a wonderful personality. He would leave Persephone and come to the fence for attention. Beautiful boy.
We have a 6 yo Connemara/Hanoverian mare (unrelated to your guys) and she is loyal, intelligent and a great partner for my husband. I think she would die for him. And always knows where her feet are. She can walk across a creek on the stepping stones put there for people. It’s uncanny.

Stacie thats really neat—My husband also rides a homebred Connemara x Hanoverian who is wonderfully kind and intelligent. My husband adores his ‘big’ pony and they have enjoyed much success together. Would love to see the stepping stone trick—that sounds really neat, what a cool horse!

Nice to “meet” you all!

Pcwertb- our farm here has the same name as yours! Black Dog Farm! When I was debating names for the Connemara part, I kind of assumed I would just call it Black Dog Farm connemaras… Then I googled it

Funny you guys have Hanoverian/Connie crosses! I am likely breeding my oversize mare to White Star this year  He is my friends horse and he looks like he would compliment her well.

Looking forward to getting onto this board more

Nice to see you here too Aricia. I know you from EMG and HJ. Are you still doing rescue as well?
Welcome to Coth!!

Hey FI! Nice to see you too  Yes, still doing rescue work. Picked up a mate yesterday actually whose owner had passed away and willed the mare to the rescue to find a new home. Lovely mare, but has never been off her property in the 10 years of her life. To say she is stressed would be a massive understatement. :frowning:
