New to Western-question about apparel

Hi All,
I am new to western riding, though have been riding all my life. I have a very silly question about clothing…don’t laugh…ok, laugh if you want to since it is pretty funny.
Right now I am riding in jeans and a pair of Ariat Ropers. That’s working fine, but it’s getting humid here in the northeast. The jeans feel a little heavy as summer progresses.
I used to ride English and have two pairs of schooling breeches that are very light weight. How completely geeky would it be to ride in those with my ropers? I know it shouldn’t really matter what I wear as long as I am comfortable. But you know…
And, is it equally as geeky to ride in a slim (not skinny but almost) jean with the legs inside the ropers?
Ok, I can hear laughing!! Be fair!! :o

Well, I suppose it depends on how many mean girls hang around where you ride.

I would do it without a second thought. But, I’m old and these days always chose comfort over style.

However, Kerrits makes some nice light weight denim bootcut tights if you want to look for something a little more conventional.

I have boot-cut tights (non-denim) and find them VERY comfortable. However, I am a weirdo and would not ride in tights in my western saddle. But, then again, I am someone who would/has ridden in full chaps in the summertime so don’t rely on me for attire advice! (Granted, I live in the desert where it is not humid)

Gasp - I ride in shorts! And ropers. And a tank top. And so far no one has fallen off their horse laughing. Mainly because so many other people are wearing the same thing.

Oh, there’s another thing I could add to the “my favorite things about western thread”!

ETA: that’s for trail rides and around the farm. When I show I don’t dress like that! But in ranch horse, a light cotton long sleeved button-down shirt with jeans (I buy the thin stretchy Levi’s from Belk’s), boots and a belt is all you need.

Not sure about the mean girls at the barn. However, I too am getting old (55) and the girls at the barn are probably already laughing at me. It’s a dressage barn, and I am one of only two western riders.
I don’t know why I care so much. So silly.
I have seen those Kerrits, and other boot cut tights/breeches–whatever we call them now…I’ll check those out. Thanks!

Haha! Love it! You’ve inspired me. Thanks!

I often ride (including in clinics…) in skinny leg jeggings and cowboy boots over top.

Do whatever is comfortable. I’ve never heard anyone say anything about anyone’s jeans at a Western show or clinic. Heck someone rode in wildly patterned workout tights at the last clinic (Mountain Trail) I was in - rolled up to shorts for the in hand portion. It was HOT out!

American Eagle has the Artist and Kick Boot styles that come in their “Denim X” stretch material…Super stretchy, very soft and light weight…and look great with boots.

Thanks! Good to know.

I’ll check those out. Great tip! Thanks!

Wear what is comfortable and don’t worry about anyone else!

When it gets colder out, I will ride in sweat pants with my UnderArmor thermal leggings on underneath. With both tucked into my cowboy boots. And I could care less!!

OMG this just made my day! I ride saddleseat and LOVE my Kerrits microcord bootcuts - now I have a denim option too!

Do whatever makes you the most comfortable! I’m sure i read an article somewhere that was about being a rebel with your horsey clothes, and I’m all for it! I ride in skinny jeans, leggings + my boots.
