New truck/trailer - getting toolbox?

DH has finally gotten his dream truck. Which also means I get my dream trailer
Have ordered 3H gooseneck for said truck.
Now DH tells me he is going to put a toolbox in the back in the front of the bed.
This is an new chevy 2500, w/ the crew cab & what is now “standard” box which is shorter than the old fashioned 8’ bed. I think it is in the neighborhood of 6’.

I have an email into the trailer company to see what kind of clearance the gooseneck will have.

Can I still pull that trailer w/ a toolbox in the bed? Without crunching anything if there is a tight turn?

I have a low profile Weatherguard toolbox. No issues.

You should have no problems with the tool box in the short bed. Just make sure you are getting a std. or low profile box. The Weatherguard saddle box (the largest size) will still work but will be tight in front of the hitch. Also to add, my new to me truck had a TSC box and although only few years old the latches are broken, it leaks and it looks really bad. My DH has a Weatherguard that was mounted on his truck in 2001 and still works perfectly, is leak proof and looks new. Spend the extra for weathergard you will not be disappointed. (Mine is getting a new Weatherguard after it’s visit to to Rhino liner next month)

Believe me, having a tool box is a godsend, it can store tool kits, jacks, tie down straps, tow straps and a myriad of stuff that you do want or need clogging up your new pristine tack room. I keep all the mechanical stuff in there as well as spare lug nuts, spare butt bar pins, fix a flat and some emergency cones in case I have a roadside emergency with the trailer. Congrats on your new trailer you must be excited!

We have towed for many years with a 3500 long box and a large tool box. The gooseneck for sure would hit the tool box 100% when doing sharp turns. We use a set back on our gooseneck hitch and it keeps the trailer set back 8" from the ball. It works and has worked for many years for us

We dont have this model, but this is something similar that we use with our horsetrailer:

I’m also toolbox shopping and am going for one that sits down inside the bed.

However we also looked at a low profile one and it’s only 2" above the rail. Your trailer will have more clearance than that, or you’ve got other problems!

I also have the B&W extended ball, which helps a LOT in a 6’ 8" bed. More than I expected from a 4" extension. https://www.bwtrailerhitches.com/product/turnoverball-4-extender
