New USEF Website

Always a new way to get $$$. Can’t look up a show record now without renewing my membership. Or I can pay $25 to become a “fan”. Wow.

Locked me out. And I’m paid up :\

F you USEF. I don’t have a horse showing on the circuit, so I did not renew my membership. And now I cannot do a horse search or member search without become a member? That’s just bull.

Read the article on Murray’s new vision for the USEF. He specifically talks about why certain areas of the website are now going to be unavailable to non-members and the creation of a “fan” membership. Modeled after some European countries membership support. Can’t say I blame him - we’ve been getting a lot for free from the USEF.

They also retro’d the name back to US Equestrian. I had heard rumblings of this but could not believe it. They (We) now have to pay to rebrand everything. To an old name.
I am so unbelievably annoyed right now.
For the horses’ sake those records should be public.

The “fan” level at $25 will save you money and allow you into the site.
They were giving a tone of information away for free…

I guess they figure no one is going to buy the cow if they get the milk for free, so now they are charging for the milk.

Somehow, I am doubly uninspired to renew my membership and/or become a “fan.”

So I wonder how well this is going to work out for them in the end.

And it looks like we are locked out of USEFNetwork as well unless we re-up?

I think the new name sounds dumb… Honest opinion, but true.

My horse isn’t currently showing until spring so I haven’t paid my membership yet. I guess I have to do it sooner than later now…

So much for outreach. I’ll stick to GCT and ESP. They seem to understand that you can’t nickel and dime people to get interest.

Wow, I was just looking things up 2 days ago trying to find information on one of the horses I ride. Unfortunately I didn’t find the information I was looking for and now can’t continue my search. Glad I finished the G.M. Horsemanship clinic yesterday. This is disappointing. $25 isn’t that much… but not sure if it is worth it to me.

I can’t even remember my usef number and I’ve lost my card, so now I can’t even look myself up to log in.

Ditto hunterrider, I just scoured every old wallet I could find!

So call them and ask!

this is what they must have meant when the said they were going to try making this sport more affordable

For those of you involved with IHSA and IEA you already have a “fan” membership given out by email, agree with others that it’s stupid to have to pay to look up records.

Way to make equestrian sports accessible to the public … make them pay to even learn what it’s about! Great way to grow the fan base

Also, this is the fourth different name the organization has had since I joined the first time. Makes me feel old … and I’m only 33.

I have a problem with putting the suspension list behind a paywall. That seems really counter to the stated goals of safe sport and transparency.

Putting horse records behind the paywall doesn’t bother me as much. Many organizations restrict access to their membership roster, though I do agree that it makes things a little tougher on buyers.

I do very much appreciate the “Start Riding” tab, in particular the Safe Sport page. Putting that right at the top, first tab, is really important and I appreciate the gesture.

I write a lot of web copy and build a lot of websites in my job at a large non-profit. There’s always tweaking to be done right after launch. I’d recommend that people write (civilly-worded) emails to USEF with specific recommendations if there’s something you find to be a real problem; hopefully they’ll listen.

Side note, OMG the dashboard is so much easier to deal with now!!! I haven’t renewed my membership for 2017 yet but I logged in to take a look—much easier to navigate.

Backed into a corner to join so I’m a tad salty.

I think they could have picked a better picture for the Join page (see-nitpicking and salty).
