Anyone here with a membership, willing to look up my number for me? Otherwise looks like USEF’s SOL on me renewing my membership.
I’m not a member and haven’t been in some time. I have watched many USEF network programs and enjoyed them. Honestly, I figured that at some point there would be a fee for watching, since the bandwidth and production teams required for such wide distribution is expensive. Honestly, $25 for a year of USEF Network is a decent price. Compare it to even a basic Netflix subscription. I guess some people would rather bitch about the fee than be thankful that it was free all this time. After all, if you were a member for the last decade or so, I was taking advantage of the network that you were funding. Now, I guess I have to start to ante up. I enjoy the video, so I plan to do so.
I agree that the suspension list should be open.

If you want to PM me, I can look it up for you tomorrow.
Do you mind if I ask why you choose not to be a member at this time?
I think it is fantastic that they offer - free - a list of certified trainers by region. And, the same link gives a breakdown of ribbons won by discipline. I think that is fantastic.
I’m genuinely curious why people would be doing member or horse result searches and not be members themselves. Anyone want to chime in on that? I think the Carfax comparison is very fair. But I’m genuinely interested in knowing why professionals would not be members.
Just check your email. I’m sure they would have emailed you ten times to renew and emailed you your number last year.

While a lot of folks may feel $25 is a drop in the bucket to receive the benefits offered, consider what it cost in membership fees at the beginning of last year for DD with ONE child jumper/eq horse:
USEF- $55
Horse for year if not lifetime registered - $75
USHJA - $85
WIHS - $40
NAL - $40
NCEA - $35
Maclay - $35
VHSA - $40
MHSA - $35
NCHJA - $30
SCHJA - $50
Zone 3 ch/aa jumper championship (just to have points count to qualify) - $50
EAP consideration - $50 I think? $550 fee to attend and $120 for facility
Total just off the top of my head? $510 just in upfront fees without being chosen to attend the EAP, $1180 if you are selected and go to EAP.
Of course the privilege of attending the EAP is worth the cost for the clinic/value received. I don’t argue that.
The rest of the fees/associations joined were just to have points count for the year for most of zone 3 and so she could actually compete at WIHS or Harrisburg if she had qualified. The zone 3 associations were so medal classes she did would count. She qualified for everything by May so the money wound up being worth it but then when horse got hurt and she sat out the rest of the year we wound up in that land where you had best laid plans and God laughed.
And so not to give the impression we jumped the horse’s legs off, she didn’t do every possible medal or jumper class (not even possible) at every show, it was strategic planning of do this here, do this there. Had he not gotten hurt she would have had her pick of which finals she wanted to do and we only would have done maybe 2 fall final shows. But not knowing at the start of the year what or where she would wind up really shining, we kind of had to join all of the various state associations along with the national stuff in order to ensure her points counted when she did specific classes.
I agree to some extent that if you can afford to do all that showing you shouldn’t complain about small fees, but those small fees add up quick and as a parent I would now have to have my own $25 membership to track my kid/horse points etc? Or make her share her password and account with me? It does rankle, I will say.
And for us, she was qualified for everything she wanted to do except staying in the top 40 for the WIHS Eq final and/or WIHS Child Jumper Championship class in 5 shows, which she had an “angel” supporting. So she wasn’t even going to show much between May-late August. And we were and are always on a tight budget, so the things we paid for like shoes/vet/blankets/shipping/cooler/sheet/scrim/bonnets/gloves did add up too like they do for any family.
I can’t imagine what it would cost to have more than one horse, just the one that we weren’t even fully supporting in the show circuit was as much as we could bear.
And had she wanted to really do the eq AND the jumpers seriously, there is no way to do that with one horse at shows with the scheduling unless you think it is okay to jump one horse 1.10m or higher in 5-6 classes for 3 days straight which I think is NOT okay.
PLEASE don’t anyone mistake this for complaining in any way, shape or form. It is not. We had the benefit of participating in a sport that is exclusive and both DD and I are fully appreciative of her time in the horse world. We have met lovely people all over the east coast and understand that to play at all was a gift. I just wanted to lay out how much it can run to join all those associations if you have a kid who is playing the jumper/eq game just for one season. It does add up.
For the first bolded item, it is not an additional $25. It is a different membership. If this had been in place last year, you would not have had to pay it.
Second, you decided there was value in being able to do the state medals in four different states. So you got what you paid for.
Third, why would there be any big deal about ‘making her’ share her account? First, it’s really your account as she cannot show without your signature. Second, there is nothing private to her on that site. I can log in with my membership and see everything about your daughter’s record.
As a former member who isn’t currently competing, I do occassionally look up show records of horses that are for sale.
Ah I didn’t even think of that. Thanks!
Understood, completely. My point is not specifically complaining about what we personally have or have not had to pay, and we absolutely DID decide there was value to that as you stated. I completely agree with you.
Again, I wasn’t trying to make some personal complaint about how we were affected. Especially because we weren’t paying for a lot of things ourselves - I have no right or reason to complain about the cost of showing on that level. It isn’t about us specifically, I just used the outlay as an example of the cost for one jr/horse combination showing a small to moderate amount in competitive zone 3 which is 5 states I think? Not sure on that.
There is also a lot to be said for the ability to search as a first time or newer buyer the records of horses or ponies you are looking at, as well as the potential rule violations of a trainer you may be working with or buying from. Knowing the selling agent of the horse you tried had 3 setdowns for ace in the last 5 years would give me an idea as a buyer that this horse was maybe getting chemical help with that show record.
and how does one get into the site? I am up to date on membership yet it wouldn’t take my pass word and didn’t give me an option for help. Guess iwill need to call
I agree that the trainer violation records need to be public. Horse records? Meh, odds are someone who cares is working with a trainer who will have access.
It would have been nice to give a heads up to current members that the change was coming (specifically that a login would be required) so they had time to create a login before things went behind the firewall. It’s possible I missed it but I don’t recall getting that information when I renewed
Try going to http://eqverification.org/ to find your number if you are having an issue now that the new site is up.

this is what they must have meant when the said they were going to try making this sport more affordable
I’m sure they’ll cut costs somewhere else :lol::winkgrin:
