New York Supreme Court Ruling on Barney Ward

No it isn’t.
Barney Ward was convicted of, and served time for, a FELONY.

What felony was Pete Rose convicted of?

Actually, Barney Ward didn’t kill anyone or anything.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Barney Ward has never been CONVICTED of killing anyone or anything.

The deleted posts did NOT express an opinion that someone did something illegal. Only that someone did something unsavory.

I do not think we should be prevented form stating things that we SAW WITH OUR OWN EYES.

That is neither opinion, nor rumor.

Just a thought here. I keep reading just how great MW is with the care of his horses, and I’m also reading just how great his grooms are in tending to his horses…then could someone please explain to me how he was “setup”? Did the whole staff of MW stand around the horse with their eyes shut and not notice a strange person walking up to one of the grand prix horses and start touching his legs/boots? Do you mean to tell me his groom doesn’t go over that horse with a fine tooth comb before the rider mounts?
AND, after he was busted a 1st time, I can’t imagine for a minute that he wouldn’t inspect his own horse from head to toe–IF it was truly a setup. And by the way, this wasn’t even a Mclain Ward post originally, I just wanted to get your opinions on the Barney Ward thing, My My how things spin out of control–fast.

THANK YOU GLADSTONE!

It is nice to see someone that has something nice to say about Mclain. His horses were stabled next to us at a show this summer and I have never seen horses taken care of so well and his grooms are the most dedicated I have ever seen.

I am a steward, who watches schooling areas very closely all the time. We do have to be in or at the schooling area for any jumper class over $25,000, which includes the Grand Prixs. During the course of this year, I have seen McLain at about 5 or 6 horse shows, one right after he came off his latest suspension. He has always been polite in the schooling areas and I have not had to speak to him at all. His horses are always braided, they are perfectly groomed, and his appearance is impeccable, too. I have had nothing but good experiences with McLain, his grooms, and his horses throughout the year, and I thought you all should hear this from someone who watches closely.

Flame suit on.

Let me first state something, I do not intend any of the next comments to justify anyones’ behavior, however, I wanted to drop this thought into the conversation. At least the three horses in question were put out of their misery compared with some of the atrocious abuse that other horses suffer on a year by year basis. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Miser? What misery. I was not under the impression thast any of the horses that were fraudulently killed to collect insurance proceeds were in any misery.

And let’s not forget that (our own feelings nonwithstanding) the CRIME was not in killing the horses (the owner has a legal right to kill his horse anytime he feels like it) but in killing the horses IN ORDER TO FRAUDULENTLY COLLECT THE INSURANCE MONEY.

I’ll not diagree that there are a lot of other abuses in the show circuit, that should be addressed.

Janet since I brought up the Pete Rose example, and you have made a very valid point, I went to a little research myself.

The following link is to a website with a copy of the Baseball Commissioner’s findings and statement.
www.baseball1.com/bb-data/rose/agreement.html

It does not appear to have the same gravity as being convicted of a felony as you have pointed out. But I now question, if Mr. B Ward has served his time for the felony conviction, is it the AHSA as governing board that has banned him from the horse show venues? And would they not be in a similar position as the baseball commissioner regarding the betterment of the sport? But how does his presence at a horse show endanger the sport? Was this part of his sentencing judicially?

I know this information is probably available if I did further research on my own. I apologize if I am dragging this out.

I am not advocating that Barney Ward be allowed on horse show grounds. But, I find it interesting that (at least a few years ago) Paul Valliere was training in WEF (and I’m sure other shows) but off the grounds, supposedly when his riders were on the grounds, communications were by cell phone or other. I remember a discussion of this on this BB. I remember seeing an ad in COTH thanking him. As I said, I am not for Barney, but why have people supported Paul, he also had an involvement in the horse killings?

The post to which you agreed essentially alleged animal abuse. That’s why I deleted it and the references to it.

What’s to stop anyone who carries a grudge from saying “I saw so-and-so do this…” on the BB? How would I know who’s right and who’s wrong, or just plain spiteful?

I’m not saying that’s the case here… but those BB rules exist for that reason, and they apply to everyone, even those who have been convicted of felonies or kicked out of the AHSA.

No allegations of anything illegal, unless it’s appeared in print or been proven in court. That’s been the rule from Day 1, and it’s not up for discussion.

According to an interview with McLain Ward on the Towerheads site, a steward found the chips in the grass near the horse after removing the boot. There were no marks on the horse’s leg. http://www.towerheads.com/stories/mclainward20000704.asp

Good news on the AHSA website, New york Supreme Court affirms AHSA ban of Barney Ward. Great Job AHSA!! Check it out at www.ahsa.org
