Hello all! I contacted a hunt club almost two months ago inquiring about how to get involved with the club and voulenteer opportunities. I have still not heard back from anyone and am wondering if I should try again or just continue to be patient. I don’t want to be a pest if they are busy but I’ve also been wanting to get involved for a long time and they are the only club anywhere near me. I don’t want to make a bad impression, since we will need a lot of guidance as I’m totally new to this and if/when I took my horse she would be too. Club organizers - how much time do you want to be given to reply to a newbie? Is there anything I can/should let them know to help facilitate getting started? TIA!
Did you call, or e-mail?
I know for a fact that 2 of our 3 joint-masters are not e-people. If I rely on e-mail for communication with them I’ll be waiting for days/weeks for a reply.
Try a call. The hunt roster should give you 2-5 or more telephone numbers.
Second what Hunter’s Rest said. And, like all of us, they can get busy too – try again, and/or try via a different form of communication!
You may also try posting here for which hunt or area that you are interested in. I was trying to contact the wrong person for awhile and not getting a response.
I was given a hunt horse a few weeks ago and the owner gave me the Master’s contact info. I had a response in about two hours.
I would encourage you to let the folks on COTH know which hunt you are trying to get involved with. They may be able to point you in the right direction.
With our club, current members are encouraged to bring interested people to summer functions. Trail rides, cook outs, hunt camp, etc. We also have a more formal type of meet and greet for prospective members. Those seem to be held 4 times a year and are more of a cocktail party so you can meet current members and get a feel for the club.
Not all clubs have effective ways of getting new members, even though they may want them.
I wish you lots of luck! And hope that you are able to get out hunting this fall.
Thank you all for the feedback! I am attempting to contact Woodbrook Hunt Club in Washington state. I sent them a message via their Facebook page which seems to be very active. I think there is a phone number on the website, I will try calling them this week.
No one monitors our hunt’s Fb page. Call them or I bet someone on here can make an actual introduction for you!!
Schaz,
I am a not-very-active member of Woodbrook. You should definitely try again - call, e-mail, fb, whatever. I’m not sure who is maintaining the web page now, but all of the officers in Woodbrook are friendly people, who would want a newbie to contact them, and would care more about making successful contact than about “ettiquite”.
