Newbie Hunter in KY

I am a major long time lurker here on the Hunting forum and I’m ready to sort of enter the hunting world. I’m in Kentucky, currently at school at UK, but travel back to Louisville to see my family quite often. I’m not sure my horse would be a great field hunter, but I’m interested in learning more. Is anyone here a member of one of the KY hunts? Is there a more correct way to approach a hunt secretary? I’d like to get to know people in the hunt and perhaps find an experienced hunt horse to try hunting with before I drag my mare out of her happy place (the arena). Any advice you all have would be so greatly appreciated.

 I’m really just excited to take the plunge into hunting.

FYI Camargo is having our annual Field Hunter Jumping Clinic Aug 20 in Owen County near Owenton

Flyer is at:

Take a trip to Virginia and try hunting at Hunter’s Rest! Check out the fall 2011 hunt thread for dates and details ( I can’t cut and paste from the iPad). It’s great fun and you’ll meet terrific people!

Jets,
I am a newbie hunter too. I am planning on going to the Chris Ryan clinic that is being put on by our local hunt, The Woodford Hounds. My horse has been hilltopping before, but I havent so this should be fun.
The lady that leads the WH hilltoppers just sent me the cubbing schedule and invited me to do a car chase this Aug. Its a great oppotunity to meet everyone and see whats~what… I going to try to make one (I need to line up babysitter though. ) It would be fun to go togther. If you are interested PM me. I can also send you the Chris Ryan flyer (the clinic is open to the public)
kind regards
leslie

There’s also a great hunter pace put on by Long Run Hounds on August 13th in Crestwood, just outside of Louisville…its a huge event and a lot of fun. That would be a good way to meet the members and find out about their schedule.
Can’t find their website (I know they used to have one) but they are on Facebook, just search for Long Run Hounds…
