Is it difficult to use AI without a stallion on the farm - More vet visits to see where the mare is in her cycle therefore costing more?
I have used AI for decades with nary a stallion. Most of my mares show heat, and I track their cycles starting early in the year. Sometimes I do have my vet check them to confirm they are ovulating before I take them to be bred at a clinic, but not usually.

We are at a big barn with mares and geldings. The mares generally have no problem coming into full raging heat with no appropriate companionship
