I heard from a friend that the Potomac Hunt’s huntsman Larry Pitts has broken a femur in an accident while mounting a horse preparing to go roading. A whip named Steve (don’t know his full name) is alledgedly going to hunt them. Allen Forney (a retired former huntsman) is already helping with the hounds and will be there to support also. Surgery was done but I don’t know anything else.

Steve Curry is the professional whip who has been with them for a number of years, and former HCIB Huntsman Allan Forney works with them quite a bit, so I’m sure they will all be in good hands. Really, really hope this is not true!!!
Sadly, it is true but thankfully, they do have Mr. Forney assisting them.
Also hear a member at GSV had a bad fall and also broke one of his legs.

So I hear he had plate/screw surgery done and was in good spirits and is home by now I imagine. Ya’ll can start calling him and razzing him about setting off metal detectors and such!!! :uhoh:

About 2 years ago, I was talking to someone and said exactly the same thing, and no, I didn’t knock on wood. About 3 days later, I was riding a green horse, who spooked at a bicyclist, dumped me (but I didn’t let go of the reins), reared (as a result of me yanking the heck out of his mouth since I didn’t let go of the reins when I hit the ground), and landed on top of my right foot when he came down. CRACK!! Yep, there went some of the bones. Still bothers me pretty badly sometimes, and there went my days of wearing cute 4"+ heels to work. Sigh.
It’s not that stuff doesn’t happen to me. I just never seem to get any sort of real injuries when something does happen. I suspect though, I will be pushing my luck when I eventually try my hand at Hunting.

I said that and I swear, I broke my arm in the dumbest way possible. Now I’m part of the “I got screwed club” and on May 20 every year, I wrap myself in bubble wrap, drink wine, and stay the heck away from horses.

some bones in foot broken when we went down slipping on thawed mud over frozen.
I am getting a little more careful In my old age when braving the unknown
my new hunt horse is still green to hunting but fortunately will just stop and look at new scary stuff,
and finds stuff way less scary in a group.
there was one season without a fall. I’d like another like that.
while the 4 hunts I took the new guy on last year were not a lot of experience
he is quiet [mostly] and as noted it is time to “leg up”
