Nice half chaps

I will turn 70 this summer and my horse will be 23 next month. I have a pair of tall boots that I am ‘saving’ for a possible century ride in about 5 years(got to have goals, right?). I have very funky feet and am not going to spend $$$ trying to find a suitable pair and for sure not going custom (even though current boots are basic MH boots and nothing fancy but they have reasonable fit and I can walk short distances in them). My current half chaps (synthetic) are cheap and getting near cracking and falling apart.

What are some nicer makes of half chaps? I ride 4-5 days per week so want some durability.
TIA Susan

Do you want soft or stiff half chaps? I like the Tredstep half chaps, I keep a back up pair for competition just in case the zips on my competition boots bust. I think the latest equivalent will be the deluxe half chaps which are quite stiff.

I prefer soft. I’m a tender old fart (lots of foot/ankle pathology).

I have been wearing Ariat half chaps since the long ago era when people would come up to me and ask what I was wearing. Half chaps were a novelty and rarely seen in my part of the horse world.

I still like Ariats and just live with them needing replacements about every year.

But when I want to “dress to impress” (mainly myself) I put on my nice soft Italian made Grand Priix half chaps and paddock boots.

I second Tredstep half-chaps. They look like dress boots when they’re well-fitted.

I agree with the recommendations for Tredstep. I found the have the most sizing options and they wear like iron

If just for schooling, the Ariat Breeze and very comfortable and can be hosed or washed off in the washing machine.

If showing purposes, go with Tredstep.

Except for the snaps at the bottom. I love my Tredsteps and the fit but I’ve had problems with the snaps. They can be difficult to unsnap and ultimately one piece rips out of the leather. This happened to my current pair. I’m going to try to fix them myself with new snaps.

I’ve had ProChaps for years and love the fit and comfort.

I have the Petrie half chaps (Dover) and they look nice. I’m on my second pair from them but Celaris makes a pair that also look intriguing.

Interesting (and, I’m sure SUPER frustrating) , I’m on my second pair and not had that problem…

Yeh it is super frustrating because I love how they fit but always end up with snap problems. I hope I can fix them!

Thanks all. I will get to looking.

Pro Chaps are great. They come in a lot of sizes and are comfortable and durable.
