I beleive it means that if you contact the factory they can look it up in their records and tell you the exact model of the saddle that they made that fits that exact serial number (model, color of dye, knee rolls, thigh rolls, flap styles, tree, tree width, billet specifics, etc.).
KN Serial number
Your serial number K2/90101004M means:
You have the 9,010 saddle made in that year and it was manufactured in Oct ( the 10) of 2004 (the 04) the M means a medium tree, about 41cm’s and the K2 is the bigger wedge panel under the seat, where the stitching and seam are.
Hope this helps.
Waw, HAFPAS, that’s great. I didn’t know this. I’ll go out & check mine. I’ve often wondered what size tree I had, as I find my horse could do a little wider perhaps. Great information!
help with serial numbers…
Hi-was wondering if someone could help me with my serial number:
97080970MK2
an older KN to decode
My numbers look a lot different…this is the original model before they called
it the “Symphony”:
AH MS
9601 13 WK2 42
I assume the 42 is the tree size…mediumish and the 9601 the number of the
saddle made that year but the rest is a mystery to me.
BaroqueLady:
AH MS
9601 13 WK2 42
AH MS = initials to tell who built/controlled the saddle
96 = Year of production 1996
01 = Month of production January
13 = Serial number
W = wide channel width
K2 = padding in the panel behind
42 = seat size (now 43cm because of the new measurement)
Hope this helps!
ETA: I got this information straight from Niedersuss about my saddle, just changed it to fit your serial numbers

Hi-was wondering if someone could help me with my serial number:
97080970MK2[/QUOTE]
Made 08 (August) 1997
0970 - saddle # that year
M - medium width channel
K2 - amount of padding in the panel behind
Thank you ENS0613!!
That is more information than I could have hoped for!
This was my mare’s saddle and she has been retired now for 4 years…about
time I got my act together and sold it. I have no idea what to ask for it…
maybe $800-850??? It is in wonderful condition.

There was a saddle in my area recently that had the exact same specs as your saddle. I believe it sold for $1000 after being on the market for only two weeks!
The older Niedersuss’ really hold up nicely, and people KNOW that they are quality saddles. My own saddle is 16 years old, and looks almost as good as new
WOW!! That sounds so encouraging! I would love to get $1000 for my saddle!
So where did the owner advertise the saddle? Local dressage newsletter,
ebay?? I am stuck out here in the dressage wilderness of SW Virginia so I
feel that my options are limited locally. I know nothing of selling on ebay though
I have bought stuff. Any tips would be appreciated. And thanks again for
the info!

Here, there is a network that’s just for North CA (where she listed her saddle) and another one for South CA. If you have something like that, I think that would be a great place to list. Most people I know don’t want to deal with shipping a saddle back if it doesn’t fit and what not.
Hello All,
I’m sorry to bring up this old thread again, but I could really use some help!
I have two Niedersuss saddles and am having trouble understanding the serial numbers. I looked through previous replies and am still unsure of myself, especially on dates.
The newer saddle is:
HN SE
00 06878MK2 45 (I believe this is Med. tree, K2 padding, and 45cm seat?)
Older saddle is:
9004321M (I believe this is June 1990, 321st saddle, medium tree?)
Thank you!
Just happened upon this old post and have a seat style question. I have a K1 I’m trying and can’t figure out the difference between that and the K2 size? Think it’s the wedge angle but not sure and since I’m looking for a similar saddle wouild love to know the difference. My id is 9408 897 W K1 45 So I think it’s a 1994 saddle, Wide, K1 seat, 17.5 size?
