Just read that nice profile of him last night and wake up to this heartbreaking news. Thinking of all his connections.
So tragic! My most heartfelt condolences to all his connections.
SA has thrown a lot of money at the world sport scene and people are either ready to take the bait or ready to take a stand. There have been many women who refuse to participate in events there, including a Chess Grand Master who will lose her standing.
Did they try to get the women golfers? Or did they just throw money at the men?
Genuine question. I donāt follow golf at all.
I dont either, though know enough to quote Griphook
āits complicatedā
money influence in Europe. SA backs a European league and when LPGA and the Euro league tried to merge, the SA put a block on that.
Wow. Incredible horse, incredible riding, what a partnership!
I just had a friend who competed there in an off-road car racing rally for women and she had a wonderful time and said she was very respectfully treated. They actively encouraged and funded American women participants. It was an experience for a lifetime so she went given the opportunity.
Very interesting. Thanks for the input.
I had some relatives who lived there part of the year for work for some time, and I think their experiences were quite different. But it was a long time ago by now.
Just the men
Thanks.
Yet the women in their country are not afforded the same opportunity or respect.
Of course they paid for American women to come.
Well, there were Saudi Arabian women competing as well. I donāt know a lot about the subject obviously, but for whatever itās worth, her experience was positive.
Thatās interesting. I think (could be wrong, and please correct me if so) that Saudi women are not permitted to drive cars.
SA spends tons of money on these events as a form of PR. Their standing with Amnesty International , Human Rights Watch and Freedom Watch tells a completely different story
Saudi girls are not permitted to play sports in school. Saudi women can drive if they have the permission of their male relatives.
Women with wealthy husbands have more opportunities. The young lady showjumper that competed (years ago) was taken out of the country by her mother to be educated and to be able to ride competitively.
This is incorrect. Women can drive, they do not need permission. Women can also play sports in school.
Hereās from Wikipedia not the Human Rights Watch. There is no defense regarding the way women are treated in Saudi Arabia, it is worse than the Middle Ages. But feel free to marry a Saudi and move there if you like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Womenās_rights_in_Saudi_Arabia
Thanks, I have.
