No gloves / Harrisburg?
They just didnt want to wear gloves? You don’t HAVE to.
Or maybe they wanted to and accidentally put two left hand gloves in their groom tote and when they went to put them on right before the class they realized their mistake and went in sans gloves. Ask me how I know this scenario;)

Yuck, I HATE gloves. I only show in them if it’s hunters or eq and that’s only if it’s a big(ger) show. I like the feeling I have without them on. I mean, if I was doing Harrisburg and big classes/shows like that, then yes I would probably have gloves on in the hunters/eq (and it would annoy me lol). But that’s just me.

I believe they are required in Appointments or Corinthian classes. (where you also have to have a pair of white or yellow string gloves peeking out from under your billets.)
They don’t hold these classes anymore, so I was not addressing them.

Really? I would never go into a round without gloves on, I don’t even school without gloves on! I would feel naked with them, I guess.
Ditto.

Years ago I was just getting on my mare to go out on a trail with my trainer. After I got on he asked “Where are your gloves ?”

I had to get off and go get them.

Needless to say I got the message and since then I’ve rarely ridden without them.

I like gloves myself but it is all personal choice. I do like the finished look of gloves.
Yes…as the saying goes, “the smallest details make the difference.”

Multiple times I’ve gotten down to the ring for an eq class and then been like, “Gosh, Carly, I think I’m missing something.” (Carly is a girl that is almost always in the same eq classes with me and we hang out by the in gate together a lot, sometimes it’s other people). Every single time, she looks at me and simply says, “Gloves.”

I looked in the rulebook. Nothing in equitation section says gloves are required. Years ago, maybe 10, it was in the rulebook. When did it get taken out?

Zombie thread alert!!

I don’t think there was ever a rule in the USEF rule book about gloves in hunt seat equitation. Not in my lifetime, anyway.

But it has certainly been customary for as long as I can remember.

I imagine that I am not alone in having significantly deformed hands. I cannot pull on a glove unless it is Mickey Mouse extra large sized. But I have enough grip with two bare fingers and a thumb to hold reins without gloves getting in the way.

well, this thread was last updated 11 years ago, and the agreement was there was no rule then…

Yep, someone pointed out earlier that this is an old topic. I don’t mind it being brought back for further duscussion though.

i only wear gloves when it’s cold.

11 years later we’re still talking about gloves

Or you could look at it that you haven’t talked about gloves for 11 years

I think maybe just ladies side-saddle is the only appointments class left, and when i was showing some of the the judges barely did appointments.
