No Reins, No Problem! Horse wins race after both reins break...

Dang, my trainer used to make us ride without reins and it can be very hard work, imagine racing like that.

Yay for the gray! It’s certainly the year of the grays!

I hope Can’t Stop the Kid is OK.

Damn. That went well for what it was.

What are the odds of both reins breaking? Very unlucky.

I don’t call that unlucky- I call it very poor equipment check. Great job Marcos.

If you watch the race, it looks like he still has the left rein when crossing the finish line.

Hope all is ok with the 5 horse.

What is the “neck strap of the bridle”? Would it be the throatlatch?

That was my guess since he wasn’t wearing an actual neck strap.

Back in the day - in the early sixties - Fred Winter won a steeplechase race on Mandarin with a broken bit…I believe it was in France. I have Mandarin’s picture.

Amazing performance by both rider and horse! Wow.

But I was surprised in watching the replay to see the 5 horse break down–the article made no mention of it. It didn’t look good. :frowning: All that the Equibase chart said is that he was vanned off.
