Noise Reducing Ear Bonnets

What is your favorite brand of noise blocking/cancelling ear bonnet, and why? I just bought a Schockemoehle and am waiting for it to arrive, but was wondering if the Equiline or De La Ceour bonnets were either more noise-dampening, had softer ears, were better sized, cooler for the summer, or otherwise superior. Also curious to know if there are other options besides those.

Also has anyone been able to make their own version, and if so, what did you use for the sound proofing? I can crochet bonnets and will go that route if the Schockemoehle doesn’t fit right, but other than neoprene, I don’t know what I’d use for the soundproofing.

I haven’t tried it, but I was shopping for ear bonnets the other day and found that Plugz has just come out with a noise blocking one.

I have a Talisman and a De la coeur. I wanted a custom style, which plugz and equifit didn’t offer. Both seem to work when I’m too lazy to battle with ear plugs at home.

And for soundproofing, I think they are some kind of dense foam under the fabric?

I bought a Schockemoehle a few years ago. I’m hoping they have updated their design. I think it probably help cancel some sounds but I had a few problems with its design. The stiff neoprene type material ears meant that if a horse shook his head hard enough the bridle would fall off. Luckily it only happened when I was stopped and standing around (and this happened on more than one horse). Tightening the throat latch (more than I thought was comfortable, definitely tighter than the 4 finger rule) fixed the problem. But I always felt that the horses didn’t really like the bonnet. The fact that they needed to shake their heads hard enough to get the bridle off made me think that it was about the bonnet since it was the dead of winter(no flies).
But I bought it 4 years ago so they might be different now.

I found the Schockemohle to only come in a large size. I ordered one from Riding Warehouse called a B Vertigo. It comes in cob size which fits my petite horses much better. I haven’t had it long but it looks well made. It was also much less expensive and the neoprene area is softer.

Does anyone have any feedback on the actual efficacy of these? I looked at a schockemohle but the ears were so huge there was no way it would fit my TB’s head. I’d like to try one this season for stadium as they just got approved and my horse is super spooky in stadium.

My TB is sensitive to noise, JF. I have only used it at home and he has been good, but who knows if it did anything or he would have been good anyway. I think it has more of a muffling effect than total elimination. It is no Bose headphones, anyway.

I have the shockemole one. My horse has very large ears and it, in it large size, was the only one that fit. It does a pretty good job. We have survived snow slides without major issues this winter. Completely soundproof, no, but I’m not sure that’s what I want anyway.

Sorry to revive an old thread.
Ive been using a (local brand) and its been too small for one of my horses, another friends horse, so I tried it on my 15hh cob who has ordinarily proportionate ears (I thought) and during the ride it creeps upwards. Its almost like the bit between the ears isnt wide enough, or maybe the ears arent long enough.
Anyway im after a version that stays down.
My horse was great with it on (though managed to shake the entire bridle off while I was readjusting a jump) and my other horse also managed to shake the entire bridle off with a minimal shake.
Anyone found on that doesnt creep up, or shake the bridle off?
We have access to the major brands here in Aus, but not the custom made ones.
