Noisy Professional Choice SMX Pad

My recent horse came with a bunch of western saddle pads, one of them is a Professional Choice SMx Air Ride. It looks like a nice pad but makes a crackling sound. Is this normal for these pads or is there something wrong with it and it shouldn’t be used?

The “Air Ride” space age material is glorified bubble wrap. Perhaps it has been stored in a hot place and the “air pockets” are popping open. (Seriously).

Wow. I’d ditch that pad. Sounds like a recipe for disaster!

That’s crazy, they’re so expensive! Glad I didn’t pay for it.

I might just have to open it up and take a look.

They do make noise. I noticed the older they get the less noise.

”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹They aren’t my first choice in saddle pads but if I find them used in decent shape I use them for work pads.
My husband has one he has been using for several years and has roped a lot of big stuff with no issues.
But had a friend who had popped one.
