Non Northern Dancer

|TWO of my geldings are ND-free! :D:lol::lol:

|Heart is only coming 8, so I guess that makes his odds of no ND a bit more interesting!
If any pedigree gurus are reading this thread, does anything in his breeding stand out for any particular discipline?
Thanks!
Dee

Several of the leading sires in Florida have no ND, Native Dancer, or Mr. P. Montbrook, Halo’s Image, Concorde’s Tunes, Chapel Royal, and Sweetsouthernsaint come to mind. A leading sire in CA, In Excess, also has none of the above.

Devil’s Bag was both NDs free. I was looking up his wonderful tail female line and happened to look at his extended pedigree and then at his offspring. He had quite a few out of mares that were ND (both varieties) free.

Our racehorse stallion is completely Native Dancer-free:

Our one sporthorse stallion is also Native Dancer-free:

Our other has a single cross to Native Dancer, but is still Northern Dancer & Mr. Prospector free

http://www.pedigreequery.com/sir+juli+go

Which gives us a little bit of a break in picking mares - we have the ability to outcross a little easier than some & don’t have to worry about the few Mr. Prospector-over-Northern Dancer mares we own getting too much of either line in their kids.

My two OTTB’s (ages 15 and 19) have no Northern Dancer, Native Dancer in their bloodlines. Both very sound critters.

As mentioned, there are a few nice stallions in FLA and Cali with no Northern Dancer or Native Dancer, but in most cases their offspringhave one or both because they are typically seen and advertised as “outcross possibilities.”
It is astounding how pervasive these two sires are in the modern TB.

I had a mare who was completely NDs free. Poor thing was used as a short sprinter. It fried both her brain and her joints. She had to be put down at age six.

My wonderful mare http://www.pedigreequery.com/dreamology is free. Wish, wish I had bred her, now she is 22.
She’s the only one I’ve got with no ND.

No Native or Northern Dancer in my 1984 model:

She’s still going strong, doing low-level dressage and she is teaching me to jump. Linebred Nearco, Bull Dog and War Admiral.

The sport horse farm I grew up on just retired their TB stallion who has no native in him. Nice stallion. So sad that he is no longer breeding. His bloodlines will be very difficult to replace.

Darned right Stone Harbor Bert’s lines will be hard to replace!

Why haven’t I heard of this guy before?

What have his get done?

There’s a 2003 filly on Trainer listings for Canter (Southern) Ohio who looks to be Northern/Native Dancer-free (if I’m not mistaken)…though she’s only listed at 15H…also only asking $500.00.

The 13YO TB I’m riding is free of Mr P, as well as Native Dancer:

Wow, he’s by Sassafras and out of a Noholme mare. That’s just legendary.

Spy has no ND (either one), but doubles up on Nasrullah and Princequillo

Started late, retired at 18 with hip arthritis.

I don’t know if he was bred to TBs for racing purposes. Before the current owners purchased him, he stood primarily to QH mares for hunter/performance type horses. Current owners bred to him for a number of years and finally bought him in 2002. Since then they have been breeding him exclusively to their very selectively chosen Percheron mares. He has always created a VERY nice cross, but finally, at age 24, just isn’t fertile (is that the right word for a stud?) anymore.

His draft cross offspring are doing everything from combined driving to 3’6" hunters to 3rd level dressage. The sky has been the limit so far. Here is a link to pictures of his progeny since this farm has owned him. http://www.panacheacres.com/progeny.html Most sell as weanlings or yearlings. They’re nice horses and they’re hard to keep around.

Looks like another CANTER (Southern) Ohio Trainer listing TFF #1 no Northern/Native Dancer mare:

WOW! What an interesting mare. 94 starts; multiple lines to Djeddah and Tourbillon, and, from her photo, clean legs after all that racing.

We may have to go overseas to look for more NoD-free and NaD-free bloodlines. Here’s King’s Parade, an Australian grandson of Secretariat.

Bertrando

who happens to my saddle horse’s sire
