I plan to call the vet tomorrow (closed today and I don’t think it’s urgent) but wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar. My senior mini mule presented with some fluid/swelling around her right flank area. It’s soft and fluid like, not hard swelling and not painful. Temp, respiration, pulse normal. Eating fine. Acting fine for the most part, though she was a little less sassy and impatient than normal. I am assuming it’s nothing but I’m slightly paranoid because of her age. It doesn’t appear to be from a kick.
Are you positive she didn’t receive a blow to that area? It doesn’t have to be a direct kick, but maybe a glancing blow? Or a reaction from a sting or bite?
What did the vet say??
It’s usually a pretty docile herd, but it’s not impossible. The vet said if it isn’t painful or warm to the touch to just continue to monitor.
The mare at our barn that foaled 3 weeks ago has something similar. I thought it was part of the foal pressing there when she was pregnant, but its still there. Not painful, hot or bothersome to her.
How cute is she!!!
I’d try cold hosing maybe, see if comes down. I’d be inclined to think allergic reaction.
Any improvement?
