Non-Riding Pants For Curvy But Thin Riders

There were so many good breeches suggestions for those of us with waists 10 or more inches smaller than our hips in the other thread. I am curious if those posters have suggestions for non-riding pants. Jeans, casual pants, dress pants, skinny, straight, bootcut, etc. Basically anything other than leggings/jeggings which are generally givens.

I’m curvy, moderately plus-sized (16 or 18 depending on the manufacturer). I like Torrid’s jeans. I wear a 14 short in them, so I’d go down a size. I think their clothes go down to size 10, maybe 12.

I am curvy and make use of Womens sizing (W) a 16W will have a little more hip and thigh than a 16. They are sized for a curvy figure with more realistic waist and hip shaping. Torrid is a good start point, too, though as a 60+ I found their designs just too young for me.

Gap jeans have a curvy cut.

Ann Taylor’s curvy fit jeans and pants fit me well. And back when I actually went to work, I loved their curvy fit pencil skirts!

I had Ann Taylor’s curvy fit recommended by someone else too. I tried a few styles and they were better than standard sizing, but still were all either big in the waist or tight in the hips.

@touchstone Have you tried the Gap curvy jeans? I am curious how curvy they are.

I really like the fit, and they come in a couple of different styles.

I hate that I recommending the Kardashian empire, but hi, depending on the season I have a 26 inch waist and 36+ inch hip as the average. some seasons slightly larger, sometimes slightly smaller, but the same ratio.

Good American jeans - the non-stretch denim fits like a dream (size 2 or 4 for a looser vintage look).

There is a jeans brand called Flying Monkey - I freaking LOVE them despite in reality they’re a glorified thicker jegging 91% cotton, 7% poly & 2% spandex. Like can sleep in these, no problem, haha!

I also really enjoy some smaller brands, but they are exceedingly pricey. Two Days Off makes a beautiful ciggy pant for work if you work in biz casual setting (but as she is a sustainable manufacturer, I believe they might be sold out).

When working in a biz professional setting (consulting days) I kept myself artificially thin somewhat on purpose, as all the beautiful work clothing didn’t fit right naturally :rage:

Now that I am not a 20 something a**hole, I would just get my clothing tailored professionally

Good American jeans really are amazing for a curvy body type. Abercrombie also offers a “curve love” fit that’s supposedly really good!

Okay. I just placed an order with Good American for a pair of black dress pants. The only pair I have is over ten years old and has a big old safety pin in the back of the waist to keep it from gapping, hahaha.

Edited to add that I just ordered white jeans from Abercrombie. Thank you for all of the suggestions. I would love to hear more as well – I have not bought pants other than leggings/jeggins or breeches in years!

I find Gloria Vanderbilt jeans very forgiving…

I really love Betabrand’s dress pants. They are stretchy like yoga pants but look tailored in the leg. I have no idea how they do it. It’s like magic. I’ve also had shockingly good luck with Stitch Fix. I remind the stylist every time of waist size vs hip size, and she has somehow picked out several great fitting pairs of jeans and a few pairs of business casual trousers. I do sometimes get a bit of a back gap in her picks, but no where near as much as if I just randomly try clothes on in stores or ordering from other places online.

I am extremely curvy. My waist is 30" and my hips are 43.5" so finding jeans and even riding breeches is a total nightmare for me. For most brands my waist is a size 10 and my hips and butt require a 14/16.

Edited to include a link:

These are my favorite pair of pants I have ever bought myself: https://www.betabrand.com/womens/pants/dress-pant-yoga-pants-collection/7-pocket-stretch-wrinkle-resistant-dress-pants

@afjordlife. I have those pants! Do you listen to Office Ladies by any chance? That is where I heard about them. I got them a year ago, just before lock down, and completely forgot about them. I just pulled them out from the bottom of the drawer and eureka, they really do fit well and feel like a dream. If I could change one thing, it would a bit higher waistline. Thank you for reminding me! I have often thought about it, but never tried Stitch Fix. Thank you for that recommendation as well. Lots of good stuff in this thread. Love COTH!

Edited to add that I just ordered another pair of Betabrand with a slightly higher rise and slightly more tapered leg. Thanks again!

I don’t listen to that podcast, though I might check it out! I heard of them through a friend who had the super subtle cat print chino pants from them that I am also obsessed with! I haven’t tried ordering denim from them yet, but will as soon as I’m vaccinated and start going more places!

Stitch Fix is also great for exposing you to new brands and styles you maybe never thought would look great. I got my favorite riding coat from them by accident and have since ordered two more in different colors. It’s a cargo jacket, warm, that is as stretchy as jersey so it’s completely non restrictive in the saddle.

Love these. Expensive, but worth it.

These are great suggestions - thanks everyone! I have trouble finding pants I like. As well as having decent sized hips my thighs are larger (as I’m assuming more horse ladies’ are!). I always feel like leggings or other closely tapered pants make my hips and thighs look huge, so I tend to go with a more bootcut stye. But that doesn’t really go well with a lot of office footwear. I’ll have to give those yoga-dress pants a try. I’ve seen the ads on Facebook but they looked too good to be true.

I love my Eddie Bauer jeans! My first pair finally has a hole at the knee after 5+ years of wear, but still totally usable for around the barn. They have a higher rise in the back so they stay in place really well. You can usually get them at an Eddie Bauer outlet store for around $25.

My favorite jeans, as someone with a 12" waist-to-hip difference, are the Old Navy Kicker high rise boot cut. They also have a mid rise if you don’t like having the waistband up by your belly button. They are a slimmer boot cut and look nice with an assortment of shoes. I got mine on sale for $20.

Barbell makes clothes specifically for athletic body types - so, bigger thighs/glutes and a smaller waist in the pants. I have a couple pairs of their jeans and aside from being really long, they fit great. I also have a shirt from them that accommodates my shoulders and biceps much better than most ladies’ shirts, though everything is so stretchy these days that I don’t tend to have as much trouble there.

Lucky Brand’s Lolita cut is also curvy. I’ve worn them for years and I particularly love the latest fabric they come in. Stretchy but truly has some structure.

@SweetMutt Thank you for both of these suggestions. The Barbell one is really out of the box and something I would not have thought of – athletic fit is curvy. I love my husband’s Lucky Brand jeans and I will definitely try the Lolitas for me.
