North Shore Boston Barns?

Hello All,

Ok, I’m 10 months out from a move to Boston. I’m looking at the Salem/Beverly area to live and will commute to the city via train.

I’m hoping to get recommendations for two geldings at a barn with a good jumper trainer. Great care is a must. Truly prefer a relaxed no drama barn that’s friendly to an adult amateur who is very hands on with her horses. Indoor arena is a must. BONUS POINTS IF IT IS HEATED…I’m coming from Los Angeles, y’all. Your girl is going to die in the Boston winters.

And yes, I know board is expensive. Lucky me, I’ve gone from the DC metro area to Los Angeles to now Boston…all of which require my left arm (I’m left handed) and right foot (I’m right footed…these limbs are crucial, y’all) EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH. So, I’m ready. I just need a good starting list…

Thanks in advance.

Meredith O’Connell at Madison Show Stables in Merrimac is great! She’s one of the only bigger jumper-specific trainers in the area. They’re at a beautiful facility (though I’m not sure about the heating situation). Rachel Truncellito at Magnolia Show Stables in Rowley is wonderful, too. She does hunters, jumpers, and eq–and her facility is gorgeous.

I lived on the North Shore for years–feel free to PM me with any questions!

Maplewood Farm in Berlin has a lovely heated indoor and just redid all the footing in their indoor and outdoor rings with GGT. My girlfriend is the head trainer there and the owner has a long history in the area. Feel free to PM me for more details or other options, I grew up in the area!

Molly Kenney with Lucky Dog Farm out of Ascot Riding Academy is fantastic. No one teaches like her. Turnout there is also amazing. She is based in Ocala during the winter though.

Berlin is metrowest and that is a HAUL from the North Shore. Molly would be my pick from the above list. I can only think of two heated indoors in the area in general, and both are metrowest.

Not tons of choices on the north shore honestly. I can share one place to be sure to avoid. I’ve heard a lot of positives about Molly.
Maplewood is nowhere near the north shore. Never knew if their indoor to be heated - but insulated. Not the same thing…
