I’m relocating soon to the Northern Virginia area for work. I have a pregnant mare (7 months) & need some suggestions on stables. I would prefer a owner with experience in foaling, has other foals on the farm coming this spring. I’m an experienced horse owner & this is not my first foal. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Do you have a vet in Northern Virginia? He/she should be able to recommend a boarding facility with a good foaling record.
Where in NOVA?
I am currently boarding my pregnant mare (due June 1) at a farm in Nokesville. They have foaling experience, 4 board fencing, foaling stall, stall and large turnouts with run-ins, and the care is superb! In addition to my broadmare, I also have a riding horse I board here, as they also have an amazing riding facility. Please PM for more info.
You might call Pat Limage in Gainesville. She’s a Hanoverian breeder, though maybe no foals coming this year, and has a super facility with an indoor and lots of turnout. Stacy Pattison trains from there and both have much experience with foals/foaling. I know they board horses in training but not sure about outside mares in foal. Pat and Stacy are both on FB and the farm Bae Prid has a website.

Try Kathie Hamlin at Elmington Farm in Berryville. Huge pastures, compatible groups, run ins, lots of other mares and foals for this year. Stalls if you want them. Very reasonable. One of my broodmares lives there quite happily.
Patricia Ramey at Blue Ridge Farm in Upperville is wonderful. The facility was built as a TB breeding farm so every stall is big enough for mare and foal…16x16 I think. 3 barns full. I had 2 foals there and still board there. She took amazing care of my special needs mare. Patricia is great with the babies and manages every mare/foal pair individually. She cares for them like they are her own. She buys the best hay and the broodies have hay in front of them all the time. Don’t let the drive scare you away. You really need to see it.
