I know there are some variations of this post floating around but going to go ahead and re-up…looking for any and all recommendations for a solid eventing program for myself (confident AA) and my coming 5yo. Aiming BN/N this season, maybe YEH. Would love to hear about places that are active at USEA recognized shows especially. Very familiar with the greater DC area traffic and its challenges. Thanks!
Big recommendation for Clasing Equestrian. Excellent horse care, two great professionals, a small intimate facility with everything you could want.
You have excellent programs to choose from in the area.
Windchase
Clasings
Danielle Paulsen
Pacific Farms
The Frame Sport Horses
Jill Thomas
Monarch Eventing
Morningside
View Point
Plus a bunch of other talented trainers/farms I’m sure I’m missing.
I’d add Waredaca.
I’d add
Sharon White
Kelty O’Donoghue
Burke Eventing
in Maryland I’d add Bascule and Destination Eventing
For eventing venues, Maryland has Maryland Horse Trials that has 3 USEA recognized events and 3 or 4 unrecognized events plus Twilight eventing and XDerbies, Waredaca and Seneca Valley Pony Club have horse trials. Those 3 places are within an hour of each other. Further out in Maryland you have Full Moon Farm also offers recognized and unrecognized HT. In VA Hunt Club Farm, Morven Park, Loudoun Pony Club, Virginia Horse Center, Middleburg, and some others. You can check the USEA calendar.
Big plus one to Windchase, Waredaca, and Monarch Eventing (run by former Windchase assistant trainer Cindy Anderson-Blank.) I would also add A Bit Better Farm (Kelley Williams.) Not sure if you’re looking for lessons/a la carte rides, partial training, or full training, but on the Maryland side a lot of good full training programs are usually full with a waitlist and partial training seems generally less available.
I do not care for some things I’ve seen from the Clasings and at least one trainer [ETA: who was at one point, but is no longer listed on their website] at Bascule, so I would not personally select either of those options for me or my horse. As always, your mileage may vary!
Welcome to the area! You are spoiled with excellent choices in these parts, though of course, the quality of care and instruction at any given place can change overtime. I’ll send you a PM with respect to one of those listed above.
Thanks all for the good suggestions! I’m still investigating the programs you’ve all suggested.
