Noseband Pad

I’m considering getting a noseband pad. If you use one, what do you use?

Nose side or jaw side? I used a gel crown piece on the jaw side (back, I guess?) of a cavesson until I finally caved and got a “crank” style that had the padding. It worked great to prevent Chompy McChomperton from rubbing her jaw bones raw on a loose noseband and was reasonably discreet and washable to boot.

For the nose side, I know there are answers, but I haven’t ever needed to find one so I have no clue.

Nose side.

Love these so much! They are as addicting as saddle pads!

Thank you, @svvdressage! I had seen these on Etsy and was hoping someone had something to say about them. I just ordered two. :+1:

I started with 2…now have about 12! They are great and the store owner is amazing to work with. :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2:

A radical alternative: if the noseband is rubbing, how about removing it and riding without one? Could be an interesting experiment.

It’s not rubbing.

Because you generally can’t show without a noseband? Therefore they need to eventually get used to one for every day.

I read the thread as a nose band causing rubbing. It appears the OP wants a pad because she wants a pad so no point in not having a nose band.

You cannot show without one in any English class, not even Saddleseat.

This is like going bitless. If you only train your horse to go bitless, what if something happens to you? Do you think the next owner is going to ride bitless 100% of the time? You cannot guarantee what will happen to them if you sell or move them along for whatever reason.

The best thing to do is train them like you have to sell them. Horses should be ridden with and without nosebands, with and without bits, English and Western (and Saddleseat too!), with and without a flank cinch, with and without spurs, with and without a crop… etc… Hopefully you understand what I am getting at. Exposure and well rounded education is the best thing you can do for your horse.

First you assumed that the noseband was rubbing. Now, you’re assuming I have no reason to want a pad other than I want one. Here’s a radical alternative for you: stop making assumptions when you know absolutely nothing about the situation.

I’ve tried them all. My favorite is the Chin Eze Noseband Pad - but placed on top, not underneath.

From SmartPak but they don’t seem to have it anymore: it is memory foam and came with a poll pad. His noseband was leaving a mark (and it wasn’t tight), which is why I started using it. No more mark!

Thanks for this. If the one I ordered doesn’t work, I will get this (it looks like they do have it in stock). Not that it’s anyone’s (cough Willesdon cough) business, but his noseband leaves a mark, even though it’s not at all tight. I hate seeing it.

@svvdressage Can I slightly hijack this thread and ask to see some pictures?!

Picture and link are posted upthread. :grinning:

Thinline makes some, too. I have one but haven’t used it yet. https://thinlineglobal.com/shop-all-thinline-products/thinline-chin-poll-noseband-guard

Of course!! I had a custom size for my Micklem and normal for the double. He was not excited about the pink :joy:
